Sue was born June 25, 1951, in Rock Island, to Lewis B. Jr. and Joan (Funk) Wilson. A graduate of Rock Island High School, Class of 1969, Sue furthered her education at Upper Iowa University, graduating in 1975 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and a minor in English.
On August 15, 1981, she married Jonathan D. Paul in Moline, Illinois. For nearly 28 years Sue dedicated her life to teaching at several Christian schools, including East Moline Christian School and Sycamore Christian School, East Moline, Illinois. Between teaching stints she raised three children, retiring from teaching in 2003. She later helped her husband run Genesis III Inc., a small manufacturing company they co-owned in Prophetstown, Illinois, and remained part of its management team until her death.
Her spiritual journey began in 1971 when by the grace of God she became a new creation in Christ Jesus. She sought to love Him with all her heart, soul, and mind, and obey Him with the help of His Spirit. A faithful member of Sycamore Reformed Baptist Church in East Moline, Sue found in this covenant community a place to grow in grace and the knowledge of God, and a place to love and serve others.
Sue's love of music and of the cello in particular inspired her to start lessons at 61, which she continued as long as her health permitted. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the founding and development of The Deanery School of Music in Davenport, which recognized those contributions by making her an honorary board member in January 2025.
While a passionate Iowa Hawkeyes fan and one who could throw a football better than many, it was primarily her love of people that characterized her life and pursuits. She was thoughtful and generous with all, a gracious hostess, a loyal friend, a beloved mother to her children, and the irreplaceable Nana to her 14 grandchildren.
Above all it was Jesus Christ and faith in Him that shaped Sue's identity, and her desire to be a testimony to the sovereign and unmerited grace of God showered in love upon an unworthy sinner.
Those left to cherish Sue's memory include her husband of 43 years, Jonathan; children, Seth (Katja) Paul, Katherine (Brian) Creasser, and Benjamin (Katie) Paul; grandchildren, Chiara, Amélie, and Ivan Paul, Theo, Soren, Cohen, Susan, and Noah Creasser, Olivia, Emma, Jackson, Ian, Wesley, and Elinor Paul; brothers Stephen (Annette) Wilson, Lewis (Kath) Wilson III, Michael Wilson; half-sister Jennifer Wilson-Fojo; her step-mother Gerie Wilson; and her dear aunt, Ellie Klingbiel.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister Judith; and a brother who died at birth.
In remembrance of Susan W. Paul, memorials may be made to Sycamore Reformed Baptist Church, East Moline, Ilinois, or The Deanery School of Music, Davenport, Iowa.
