Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, at the Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 2106 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the Knox Chapel. Interment will follow at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.
Susan Kay was born on April 8, 1952 in Rock Island, the daughter of Charles and Olive (Hoover) Foy. She graduated Rock Island High School in 1970. In 1973 she married Gregory Vogele in Rock Island, with whom she raised two children, Jared and Jillian.
Sue was an avid gardener and bird watcher. She completed training to achieve her status as a Master Gardener through the University of Illinois Extension Office, and was very proud of this accomplishment. For many years Sue worked in the office at Chippiannock Cemetery, and also used her skills as a gardener to beautify the cemetery through gardens and floral arrangements.
Sue was a lover of animals, especially her late dog, Peanut. She would take in strays, including nursing baby birds back to health, and this love was instilled in her children as a core value – kindness to all creatures. She also loved needlepoint, a hobby she shared with her sister-in-law, the late Marilyn Vogele.
Survivors include her children, Jared Vogele (Lori Graves), and Jillian (Ian) Bishop, all of Rock Island; grandsons, Sam and Connor Bishop; brother, Charles Foy, Milan; sister-in-law, Shirley Foy, Wilton, IA, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Rebecca and Judith, and a brother, David.
