Alvin L. Baxter, 89, of Port Byron, IL, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021 at his home. Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Countryside Christian Church, Port Byron. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.
Alvin was born on March 8, 1932 in Hollis, OK, to Stephen and LeeAnnie (Cornutt) Baxter. He was a veteran having served in the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955.
On September 1, 1956 Alvin was united in marriage to Shirley Breeden in Rapids City, IL. He worked for over 30 years as a pipe fitter for John Deere, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Countryside Christian Church for 63 years and served as an elder for several years. He was active in church planting and served as interim preacher in many churches. In the 1980's he served with China Bible Mission carrying Bibles to home churches in China.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Shirley; daughter, Judith (Keith) Luck of Bolingbrook, IL; sons, Larry (Mary Ann) Baxter of Lombard, IL, Steve Baxter of Rockford, IL, and Timothy Baxter of Silvis, IL; grandchildren, Heather Ackerman, Jesse Baxter, Paul Mikles, Cody Mikles, Nathan Baxter, Lucas Baxter, and Danika Baxter; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Harrison Ackerman, and Pearl and Paul Mikles, and a sister-in-law Jeannie Baxter.
In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by sisters, Ona Baxter, Ruby Powers, Lorene Thompson, Vida Hall, and Lena Holt, and brothers, Herb Baxter, Johnnie Baxter, David Baxter, Walter Baxter, and Sam Baxter.

I have many good memories of Al We always had good conversations when he came for his dental visits.He was a good man of God I missed seeing him in the office after I retired .I am sure his family have many good memories Shirley I am sorry for your loss but know you will be with him one day Will keep you in my prayers Dr.john
