Dan Breidinger Obituary

Dan Breidinger

February 16, 1953 - October 20, 2025

Danny M. "Dan" Breidinger, 72, of Davenport, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and friends on October 20, 2025 following a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Honoring Dan's wish an organ donation was made to the University of Iowa Neuropathology Resource Laboratory to support research into Lewy Body Dementia.

A memorial service to celebrate Dan's life will be held at 11 a.m., on October 30, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1122 W. Central Park Avenue, Davenport. Visitation will take place at the church on October 30, 2025 from 10 a.m. to the time of the service. Private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, Iowa, at a later date. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Dan was born February 16, 1953, in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Karle (Mitchell) Breidinger. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1971 and earned his degree in Industrial Technology from the University of Northern Iowa in 1977. Following graduation, he taught Industrial Arts and coached wrestling at Fort Dodge South Junior High School for four years. Dan went on to enjoy a long and successful career with John Deere, retiring in 2016.

While at UNI, Dan met the love of his life, Mary Donahue. They were united in marriage on August 4, 1979 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, West Des Moines, Iowa. Dan and Mary were blessed with their daughter, Molly, in 2003. He was a very devoted and proud father.

Dan had a lifelong passion for running and participated in many races and marathons over the years. He was also a dedicated volunteer with the Bix 7 Road Race, serving as the Elite Runner Coordinator. In addition, Dan inherited a love for "street rods" from his father and took great joy in restoring and driving a variety of antique cars throughout his life.

Those left to honor Dan's memory include his wife, Mary; and their daughter, Molly, both of Davenport; siblings Karen Kahley of Spencer, Iowa, and Joe Breidinger of Anchorage, Alaska; and nieces and nephews Brad Kahley, Stephen Kahley, Jennifer Breidinger, and Adam Breidinger; along with the extended Mitchell families, extended Donahue families, and special friends Ed and Sandy Froehlich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Ken Kahley; nephew, Mark Kahley; and his parents-in-law, Jack and Judy Donahue.

Our deepest gratitude to our family, friends, and the compassionate team at MercyOne-Genesis Hospice for the love, care, and support you gave during Dan's final days. Your kindness brought comfort, peace, and strength when we needed it most.
