Dave Hebbeln Obituary

Dave Hebbeln

July 9, 1942 - December 11, 2025

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Dave Hebbeln, 83, of Davenport, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will begin with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, continuing from 4 to 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or the Scott County Humane Society.

Dave's show came to end in the same place it started, Davenport. He was born on July 9, 1942, at Mercy Hospital to Herbert and Marie (Doner) Hebbeln and passed away on December 11, 2025, at his home.

He graduated from Assumption High School in 1960 and went to work at Matthew's Office Equipment and then opened Hebbeln's Standard Station on West Locust Street. Dave began working at ALCOA in May 1964 and retired May 31, 1994.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Nelson on December 15, 1962, and she preceded him in death on April 23, 1987. He then married Lynne Schiffke on August 1, 1987.

Dave coached girls' and women's softball from 1973 to 2023, leaving a legacy that touched generations of players. He led the Blazers women's fastpitch team, guiding them to a national finish as high as fifth in the nation. He also served as president of the Eastern Iowa Metro League, where his leadership and commitment helped strengthen the sport throughout the region.

For the last twenty years of his coaching career, Dave served as an assistant coach at Augustana College, offering guidance, mentorship, and encouragement to countless student athletes. Prior to that, he was the final head coach at Marycrest College. Beyond softball, Dave also shared his enthusiasm for athletics by coaching basketball at St. Alphonsus School.

Dave will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his teams, his deep love of coaching, and the positive impact he made on so many lives over his 50-year coaching career.

He enjoyed collecting and restoring Plymouth automobiles and especially valued the time he spent collaborating with his friend Bobe Lopez on all things related to old Plymouths. Dave says he will see you on the other side.

Survivors include his wife Lynne; daughters Lori Butterbrodt and Lecia Remley; six granddaughters; three great granddaughters and a great grandson.

Additionally, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dennis, and sons David Carl and Patrick John who died at birth.
