December 15, 1940 - May 26, 2025
Dennis Edward Awbrey, 84, of Blue Grass, IA, was called home by the Lord, surrounded by his family on Monday, May 26, 2025, at Talamore Senior Living in Sun Prairie, WI. Services to celebrate his life will be Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 12 pm. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 4th from 10 am until the noon service. His final resting place with military honors will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Buffalo, IA. Memorials may go to the Blue Grass Legion or the D.A.V.
Dennis was born in Davenport on December 15, 1940. He was the son of Edward Glen and Winoka Irene (Phillips) Awbrey. He attended Buffalo High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was trained as a tank mechanic while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He would often share his stories while serving there.
On April 10, 1965, he married the love of his life, Linda Forrest and they had three children: Chad, Dina and Darren. He worked at Occidental Chemical Company for 30 years prior to retiring. Dennis enjoyed photography and took wedding photos for many years. He loved hosting family gatherings with his wife. He was the Papa that would play his Martin guitar, make up songs for his grandkids, give rides on his John Deere mower, babysit and give driving lessons to. He adored his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a member of Sovereign Grace Missionary Baptist Church and was passionate about sharing the gospel. In earlier years he was a member of the Blue Grass American Legion and had served as President of the Buffalo/Blue Grass Lion's Club.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Chad (Rachel) Awbrey, Sun Prairie, WI, Dina (Brian) Seghers, Buffalo, IA and Darren (Andrea) Awbrey, Nashville, TN, grandchildren: Brittany, Kylie, Garrett, Ashley, Addison, Gavin, Alec and Eli; along with great grandchildren, Alli, Gabi, Logan and Gunner; sister, Bonnie (Stan) Cooley, Buffalo, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his loving wife, Linda, he was preceded in death by a niece, Dawn Scott
