Ellen McVey Obituary

Ellen McVey

February 11, 1951 - November 19, 2025

Ellen JoAnn McVey, 74, of Bettendorf, formerly of Texarkana, AR, passed away on November 19, 2025, at the Vistas at Bettendorf. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

Ellen was born on February 11, 1951, in Arkansas, a daughter of Jack and Norabel (Sneed) Crouse. She graduated from Arkansas High School. After moving to Davenport from Texarkana, she worked at Red River Valley Credit Union for over 10 years.

She had a Southern charm that she carried with her when she moved to Davenport. She was welcoming, outgoing, polite, and sassy. Ellen loved watching Westerns and relaxing. Above all else, she loved her grandkids. She loved her family, and they meant everything to her.

Those left to honor Ellen's memory include her children, James (Amy) Cox, Davenport, Ronnie (Tina) Pickett, Texarkana, AR, Marsha (Kurt) Sanchez, Gunbarrel City, TX; grandchildren, Cody, Greg, Heather, Brett, Jordan, and Michael; several great-grandchildren, siblings, Linda (Jim) Buswell, Texarkana, AR, and Marvin Wade Crouse, Ashdown, AR; and a sister-in-law, Donna Crouse.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Billy Jack Crouse, and a nephew, Nathan Buswell.

Earlier today

I first met Ellen during my first week as Chaplain at the Vistas in Bettendorf. She let me know right away that she was a Baptist. At one of my later visits I found her wearing a Barry Manilow shirt, which she said had been given to her by her baby brother. While it was always somewhat difficult to communicate with Ellen, that Southern charm was always evident; she will be missed. My sympathies to you all in your loss.
