Francis Younkin Obituary
October 18, 1945 - February 11, 2025
Francis R. Younkin, 79, of Eldridge, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at University of Iowa Hospitals. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Weerts funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Joy Cemetery, Parkview. Online condolences may be expressed at www.weertsfh.com.
Francis was born on October 18, 1945, in Davenport, Iowa, to Rene and Ciretta (Smith) Younkin. Francis graduated from Davenport Central Central High School in 1964 prior to his service in the United States Army in 11th Cavalry in 1967. He was united in marriage to Pat Ragan on January 15, 1969, in LeClaire, Iowa. Francis was employed in the communications trade as a phone installation and service technician.
Francis's favorite pastimes were watching his grandchildren in their sporting events, gardening, listening to music, hunting, wood working, and riding motorcycles not to mention his master MacGyver skills, but his fondest times were spent with his family and friends. Francis was a dedicated and wonderful Husband, Father, Papo and Friend. He loved watching The Voice on Monday nights with his granddaughter Alli. Papo touched so many lives and has always been known for his loving support of all.
Francis is survived by his loving wife, Pat; sister, Cherilynn (Chris) Mueller of The Villages, Fla.; children, Brandi (Tim) Schneckloth, of Parkview, Iowa; Josh (Kristen) Younkin of Blue Grass, Iowa; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene Younkin and Dale Younkin.
The family has requested all attendees to dress in casual attire.

Patricia, Brandi and Josh, please accept the condolences of the veterans of the 11th Armored Cavalry: the veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia. Francis was one of us, one of our own. Your husband and father is remembered as an honorable trooper whose very presence brought comfort and support to his fellow troopers. He will be included on the Honor Role of our combat veterans at our annual reunion in Tulsa in September as his service highlighted his bravery and valor. As grateful Americans we should all pause and salute a man who was willing to put his life on the line for his country and fellow man. As our burial liturgy states: " ... his life has not ended, merely changed ..." and as we were together then in Vietnam, we will be together again in the life hereafter, warmly embraced in the arms of our Heavenly Father. A school mate since kindergarten. Lived about a 10 minute walk from me as kids. I remember playing in the school yard on weekends and during the summer.

Dear family, My deepest sympathy. Francis will be missed very much. We were always so happy to see him at our class breakfasts. Very glad that he was at our January one. Francis was one of the nice guys!
