Gary W. Bertram
October 11th, 1941-Thursday, June 15, 2023
DAVENPORT-Gary W. Bertram (Bert), 81, of Davenport passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Gary was born October 11th, 1941 in Davenport and graduated from Davenport High School in 1960. He was a Vietnam veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart from the Army. He worked as a construction inspector for the Corps of Engineers and as a surveyor for the State of Iowa DOT and other businesses.
Gary met his wife Tina in 1997 and they married in 1998 at Eden Valley County Refuge, where he and Tina shared a love of camping and fishing at various local parks. He was a very loving father and gave the best bear hugs! He was a nature and pet lover and was especially fond of his various cats over the years. He had a pet squirrel when he was a child growing up on the family farm. Gary had a lifelong love of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Iowa Hawkeyes sports teams.
Gary never liked being the center of attention and per his wishes there will be no services and cremation rites have been accorded. He wishes to spend eternity among the rivers and creeks near where he camped and fished, so his ashes will be spread at his favorite camp site on the Wapsi River.
Gary is survived by his wife Tina, his children Scott and Jessica, and stepchildren Spring, Yvette, and Freedom, sister-in-law Twyla, and brother-in laws Brian, Tommy and Wayne, and step-grandchildren Michael, Sierra, Bella, Skylar, Luna and Star. He was preceded in death by his mother Iona (Onie) Bertram.
