Glenda Schaab Obituary

Glenda D. Schaab

June 5, 1941 - August 25, 2025

Glenda D. Schaab, 84, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 25, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Davenport Medical Center East.

A Memorial Mass for Glenda and her husband, Michael, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Davenport, with Father Robert McAleer officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Trimble Funeral Home & Crematory, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements. Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.

The former Glenda Darlene Pashia was born June 5, 1941, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Timothy and Irene (Edelman) Pashia. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1959 and went on to marry the love of her life, Michael G. Schaab, on October 13, 1962, in Rapids City, Illinois. They shared more than 62 years together before Michael's passing on April 1, 2025.

Glenda worked for many years at Struthers-Dunn, but found her true calling as a teacher at the Newcomb Presbyterian Church day care, where she touched countless young lives. She had a love for embroidery and journaling, and was known as a "collector of people"-someone who never met a stranger. Glenda cherished staying in touch with friends from every chapter of her life, from high school classmates to the families she served through day care, and even the occasional telemarketer with whom she would share a meaningful conversation. At home, she proudly claimed the title of "queen of laundry," delighting in the simple joy of hanging her sheets and clothes outdoors so they would always be the freshest.

She is survived by two children, Scott (Sara) Schaab of Rapids City, and Michele (Linda Ferreira) Schaab of Seattle, Washington; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth Bisko of Omaha, Nebraska; and in-laws, Kathleen (Tom) DeVore, Paul (Shirley) Schaab, and John (Leanne) Schaab. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael Schaab; siblings, Sharon Staggs, Timothy Pashia, Jr., and Mary Gilmore; and brother-in-law, Phillip Schaab.

I have known Glenda 48 years. I met her when I was only 17 and worked with Mike (my boss) at Sears. I would drive to Davenport once a month for 1-2 hour lunch with the group. My drive was two up and two back. I loved the conversations with them. Lots of laughter. Our group was left with Glenda and myself. The last time I saw her was just a few weeks ago. I took her to lunch, she was saying how she hadn´t had a steak in some time.

We cried a little at the table and the next thing you knew we were laughing of old memories of years gone by. It was great to hear her laugh again. As I noticed how much she was enjoying her meal, saying how great it tasted. I asked the waitress to give me two more meals, just like it, to go.

When I took her home, I put the bags on the counter. In her Mom voice she said, "Don´t forget to take your bag, DaVonna." As if I was forgetting my lunch for school. She laughed when I said, "Glenda you sound like my mother." She was so grateful for the food. I helped her cut the food into pieces and we made several meals out of it. I stayed awhile, we sat there talking and laughing with hands moving and facial movements as I told her my silly things I had done over the years. She loved my stories. So different from her upbringing.

Then it circled back to her feeling lonely. I said that Mike had to go first to make a nice place for the day she will come. He´s just not ready for you yet. This may be new to him to figure it all out. I guess she felt like she needed to choose the paint colors, and help him with all the things he needs to get done.
That´s Glenda.

My love to both of you and your sweet family.

Thanks for sharing your life and family with me.
