Irene A. Mersch

February 27, 1928 - November 10, 2024

Irene A. Mersch, 96, of East Moline, IL, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 15th, at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 15th at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church.

Irene was born February 27, 1928, in LaSalle, Illinois, a daughter of Francis and Frances (Widlowski) Klug. She married Eugene J. Mersch on May 22, 1948. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2009.

In earlier years, she worked at the former Westclox, Peru, IL. She later worked at and retired from John Deere Plow and Planter Works.

She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline, the Altar & Rosary Society, and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Irene enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, knitting, and ceramics.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Lois (Dr. David) Gannon, Rock Island, IL, William (Peggy) Mersch, Downers Grove, IL, Elizabeth Stock, Davenport, IA, Susan (David) Sunstrom, Bettendorf, IA, and Paul (Sharon) Mersch, Normal, IL; fifteen grandchildren; three step grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; sister, Jane Engelman, Peru, IL; brother, Donald (Marlene) Klug, Peru, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; granddaughter, Jennifer Irene Johnson; great grandson, Nicholas Janicki; parents, Francis and Frances; and her sister, Frances Kunkel.
