Jerry Lee Hudson
November 7, 1940 - November 11, 2025
Jerry Lee Hudson of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House at the age of 85 years and 4 days. A celebration of life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, November 28, 2025 at 11 a.m., 3834 Rockingham Rd., Davenport, IA 52802. Memorials may be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Jerry will be laid to rest at Rock Island Memorial Park.
Born on a farm in Cincinnati, IA, November 7, 1940, Jerry was the son of Arthur and Josephine Hudson. He married Bonita Meyer on August 12, 1966 at the Rock Island Immanuel Church.
After high school, Jerry joined the Navy and was stationed in California in the naval air squad division. He traveled to Hawaii, Philippines, Japan, Alaska, and India with a total of 101 trips from Hawaii to Japan while in the service. He was a 3rd Class Petty Officer.
Jerry started a career in trucking in 1964 with Standard Forwarding, then was hired by Yellow Freight where he retired after 31 years. During his career, he was awarded with accumulated 2 million miles safe driving. Another highlight in his career was when he won 1st place in a trucking rodeo.
Jerry spent many years as a baseball coach for his son, Matt's teams. He played as a pitcher for the men's slow-pitch team at Immanuel Lutheran League and umpired women's softball. He spent many years timing swimming meets at West High School and was most proud of timing state events.
Jerry was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was honored to be a trustee as well as a youth leader.
His hobbies were coin-collecting, gardening, composting, and Civil War history. Jerry loved his grandkids most of all and enjoyed their soccer, volleyball, swimming, track, and baseball games.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Bonita; daughters, April (Shawn) Lafrenz of Nashville, TN, Renee (Jay) Hillgartner of Port Charlotte, FL; a son, Matthew (Jessica) Hudson of West Branch, IA; grandchildren, Allie, Cade, Sydney, Bryn, Rory, Brianne, Kendall; and great-grandchildren, Lexi and Abby.
Preceding Jerry in death were his parents, sister, Rosemary Logsdon, and a brother, Ron Hudson.
