Lee Cann

January 6, 1932-June 23, 2021

BETTENDORF-Lee Cann, 89, died peacefully on June 23, 2021, in Bettendorf, Iowa, with his family at his side. He was a gifted storyteller with a wonderful imagination and sense of humor. He laughed every day of his life. (Full obituary at www.rungemortuary.com.)

Lee was born on January 6, 1932 in Hammond, Indiana, to Lloyd and Marie Cann; his sister was Ruth Penry. He first saw Frances, his forever love and wife of 64 years, walking by the ballpark. Soon after they met at a soda shop, where he challenged her not to play "Lavender Blue" on the jukebox. She played it without hesitation, and stole his heart. They eloped in 1949 and in 1961, built a home in Bettendorf, where they raised their family and Lee lived for 60 years.

Lee worked at Alcoa for 33 years. He and Fran loved to travel, bicycle and exercise together and sing "Go Cubs Go!" They found no greater joy than their family and their beloved dogs. We will always blink our porch light and tail lights at each other to signal "I Love You," as they did.

Lee's wife and his only son, Lee Jr., are with Jesus, welcoming him into Heaven. Daughters: Linda (Gary) Sims of Morton's Gap, KY; Sharon Poell of Davenport; Kathy (Tony) Nicoletto of Bettendorf; Tina (Jack) Lutgen of Buffalo; 17 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren; special nephews and nieces; and his sweet boy Mickey.

A Celebration of Life is being planned. Lee and Fran donated their bodies to the University of Iowa College of Medicine; their interment is in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. We are forever grateful to Genesis Hospice and Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House staff. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please direct any donations to them in Lee's memory.
