Marie Joers Obituary

Marie Ann Joers

December 21, 1928 - September 24, 2024

Marie Joers was born to Harvey and Frieda (Neumann) Menn in Norwalk, Wisconsin on December 21, 1928 and born into Eternal Life on September 24, 2024. Beloved wife to Charles E Joers for 59 years. Loving mother to David (Joan), Wauwatosa, Frederick (Angie), Riverdale IA, and Susan Ebert (Tom), Lake Bluff IL. Proud grandmother to Nikolaus, Lucas, Derrick, Peter, Marshall, Max, Theodor, Gretta, and Bridget and great grandmother to Griffin and Malcolm. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Robert.

Marie grew up on a generational dairy farm near Norwalk, WI where she attended Spring Valley one-room schoolhouse through elementary. After graduating from Norwalk High School, she moved to La Crosse to study bookkeeping, typing, and shorthand at what is now Western Wisconsin Technical College. Marie's first full-time job was working the registration desk at LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital, earning $48 per month plus room and board at Hixton House where she made lifelong friends. After moving to Madison, she met returned soldier Charlie at a church dinner for young adults. They were married August 30, 1952 in Norwalk, honeymooned in Canada, then moved to Milwaukee where Marie kept busy volunteering at Mount Olive Lutheran Church and School where her children attended. After raising their family, Marie enjoyed traveling with Charlie, visiting Mexico, Hawaii, Canada, and especially enjoying hiking in the southwest United States. In her spare time, she tended to the garden, sewed, quilted, and cooked, passing down many family favorite recipes including German potato salad and Granny Pickles. Marie had a lifelong devotion to her faith, remaining active in Hope Circle, Service League, Ladies Aid, LWML and Bible studies.

Memorials in Marie's honor may be made to Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Milwaukee.
