Marilyn Louise Johannes passed away on May 28, 2025, in Reno, Nevada, at the age of 90. Born on October 24, 1934, in Walnut, Illinois, Marilyn spent her early years in her hometown before graduating from the University of Illinois.
Marilyn was married to Robert Paul Johannes, and together they raised two children, David and Lorraine. Throughout her life, Marilyn held a variety of roles including secretary, substitute teacher, and dental assistant. She was known for creating a warm and welcoming home and often hosted dinner parties in support of Robert's career as well as entertained Dave and Lorraine's friends.
After Robert's passing, Marilyn embraced a new chapter of independence. She cultivated a vibrant social life and regularly attended local theater productions at The Music Guild, Circa, and Playcrafters. A devoted crossword puzzle enthusiast, Marilyn also found joy in the companionship of her pet cats.
Marilyn was actively involved in her community through Uptown Mission Community and most recently, Sacred City Church. Her compassion extended to both people and animals through volunteer work with Therapeutic Horsemanship and efforts to rescue feral cats. She was also active, and held leadership positions, in the American Association of University Women and Children's Conservation League when she lived in Fairborn, OH.
In 2023, Marilyn relocated to Reno to be closer to her daughter Lorraine. There, she embraced a new community and formed another circle of close friends.
Marilyn is survived by her son, David Johannes, daughter-in-law Laurey Johannes, grandchildren, Brendan, Emilee, and Padraic Johannes, daughter Lorraine Johannes, son-in-law Keith Williamson, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held 05 July 2025 at the Viking Club, Moline, IL from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
