Mark Feldman Obituary

Mark John Feldman

January 8, 1955 - April 1, 2025

Mark John Feldman, 70, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2025, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 8, 1955, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Eldon and Marina Feldman, he grew up in Rickardsville, Iowa. He married his wife, Mary Smith, in Bankston on July 7, 1979. They later moved to the DeWitt area and raised their family.

Mark graduated from Leo High School in Holy Cross, Iowa. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the Army from 1974-1976, followed by 32 years in the Army National Guard as a helicopter technician and inspector, retiring in 2008. His dedication took him on active duty from 2001-2003 with the 160th SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment). Mark's commitment and expertise were invaluable to his unit and country.

Beyond his military service, Mark was a man of simple pleasures. He cherished time spent hunting, fishing, gardening, and was known to play more than 18 holes of golf per day in his retired years. He especially loved baseball and played semi-professionally for several years; he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also enjoyed taking many cross-country vacations over the years with friends and family. Mark also took great pride in his well-manicured lawn, with stripes that would make Augusta National jealous. Most of all, Mark was a devoted family man, and husband to Mary. Through life's adventures and the harrowing three-year journey of his cancer battle, Mary remained his unwavering partner, constant companion, and never left his side.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Mary (Smith) Feldman; his children, Lindsey (Jeremy) Burken of DeWitt, Adam (Kara) Feldman of Eldridge, and Meghan Feldman of DeWitt; his grandchildren, Brooke (Noah), Isabella, Lucas, Avery, Baylor, and Briggs; and his great-granddaughter, Eloise; brothers, Ike, Bruce, and Brian. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Marina Feldman; his brother, Thomas Feldman; and his grandson, Bennett.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 16550 290th Street, Long Grove, Iowa, where Mark was a devout member of the parish. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the church with the Recitation of the Rosary preceding at 2:30 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, Illinois is assisting Mark's family with arrangements.

Mark's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed. The family would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Mario Sy and his team at The University of Iowa Hospital Cancer Clinic, for their kindness and compassion to Mark.

This is such a tragic loss. Mark was a wonderful person. He was one of the first individuals I met back in '96 when I began working full-time at the "hangar" in Mt. Joy. He was always helpful and courteous to me and my family. Like the other guys I worked with, I always considered him like an older brother. Those were great times, and I have nothing but fond memories from those years, all of which Mark contributed to making special for me.
