Melvin P. Klundt, 90, of Sherrard, IL, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Goldwater Care Facility in Roseville, IL. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2025 with visitation one hour prior to the service at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, 202 N. Main St., Port Byron, IL. Memorials may be made to Parkview Seventh-Day Adventist Church Open Door Fund, Galesburg, or to a veteran's organization of choice.

Melvin was born October 17, 1935 in Burke, South Dakota, a son of Peter and Vera (Faatz) Klundt. During his childhood, the family moved to Illinois where Mel grew up on a farm and acquired a love for agriculture. He served his country honorably in the US Army. Melvin married Margo L. (Friesen) Shy on November 1, 1992 at Fairfield Methodist Church in Port Byron.

Throughout his life, Mel worked in a variety of settings. He worked as a seed salesman, worked at Gale Products in Galesburg, was trained as a CNA, worked for XPAC in Milan, Kingsdale Farms in Victoria, IL, and on the production line at Pioneer Seed in Woodhall, IL. He was most passionate about farming.

Some of his hobbies included working on his automobiles, reading and traveling. He had been a member of the Parkview Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Galesburg since 2009.

Surviving are his wife, Margo of Sherrard, IL; son, Kevin (Ann) Klundt, Andalusia; daughters, Melanie (Dan) Doudna, Grove City, OH, Lynn Coon (Bill), New Windsor, IL, Karen Bemis, LeClaire, IA, Barbara Carlson, Riverton, WY; 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; brother, Edward Klundt (Linda Meinheit), Cordova, IL; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Klundt and Nadine Klundt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marvin, Walter and Victor Klundt; sister Margaret in infancy; and sister-in-law, Judy Klundt.
