Richard Allen Brewington was born in Fairfield, IA on November 12, 1950. He was the son of George and Wanda Mourer Brewington. Richard grew up in Batavia, IA and graduated from Cardinal High School with the class of 1968. In March of 1969, Richard enlisted in the United States Army and was sent to Vietnam. His dedicated service to his country lasted until his honorable discharge in 1971, but his friendships and memories of time spent there would last a lifetime. When Richard returned home, he began working for French & Hecht and eventually Mid-American Energy where he worked for over 27 years as a pipeline welder. On Valentine's Day in 1980 he married the love of his life, Becky Kallenberger. During their 42 years together, they were always by each other's side. Richard was most at peace when he was outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish, and his favorite pastime was mushroom hunting. Richard supported local veteran's groups and was a life-long member of the Batavia American Legion and Ottumwa VFW Post #775 where he served on the honor guard for several years. He was also a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America the Blackhorse Association. Richard will be missed by his family and his many friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Ruth Ann Brewington and Rex Boyd Brewington, and a brother-in-law, Carroll Davison.
Left to honor his memory is his loving wife, Becky Brewington of Eldon, IA; five siblings, Arlien Davison of Batavia, IA, John (Patty) Brewington of Batavia, IA, Alice (Chuck) Dyer of Hermaston, OR, Joan (Earl) Barnet of Mission, TX, and Kenneth (Gayland) Brewington of Merrill, WI, as well as many extended family and friends.
