Robert A. "Bob" Macomber
June 1, 1945-December 10, 2019
BLUE GRASS-Robert A. "Bob" Macomber, 74, of Blue Grass, Iowa, was welcomed into Heaven on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, while at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
A Celebration of Bob's Life is planned for Sunday, December 15, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Community Center, 426 Clark St., Buffalo, Iowa. Dinner will be served. In true fashion on Bob's tastes, the family asks that you come dressed comfortably and enjoy in the sharing of the many stories of how Bob touched our lives with his humor and extensive knowledge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
Bob was born in Cascade, Iowa, on June 1, 1945, to C. William "Bill" and Hilda (Felton) Macomber. He grew up in Buffalo, where he attended school through 8th grade. Buffalo students were transported to Bettendorf for the 9th-12th grades. He graduated there in 1963.
JoAnn Patty and Bob were united in marriage in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 21, 1975. They built a life together with their two children, Sarah and Paul, full of love and laughter. Bob formally worked at Farmall, J.I. Case, Occidental, and the Masonic Health Systems before retiring. He had a great passion for his disc sharpening and mobile welding business for area farmers.
He had a great love for his family, but also loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading books on history.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, JoAnn; children, Sarah (Rick) Detjens of Blair, Nebraska, and Paul Macomber of Coralville, Iowa; grandchildren, Grace and Zachary of Blair; sister, Ella (Dennis) Johns of League City, Texas; brother, Charles William (Nancy) Macomber of Cascade; brother-in-law, Don (Tracy) Patty of Raleigh, North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Carroll and Opal Patty; and dear friend, Steve Saur.
Condolences may be shared at CremationQC.com.

It's hard to believe Bob is gone. Even though I've only seen him infrequently in recent years, I can see his face and hear his voice as if it was only yesterday. When my mother, Dorothy, was in the Masonic Bob always took time to stop in and way hi whenever he could; once he took me on a ride around the grounds to pick some lilacs for her. Always enjoyed his company whenever he would stop by the farm to help or just for a visit.
A funny memory is once I fixed Rocky Mountain Oysters for noon dinner. No one told him what they really were until he was eating them and asked because he thought they were so good. He got the funniest look on his face; we all burst out laughing, and of course, he took it well.
More than once I would run across Bob at Clark's Landing having coffee and reading a book. He was a good guy, always ready to lend a hand or tell a story. Bob will be missed by all who knew him.
I'm writing this because I will be out of town and unable to share my thoughts in person. Sending my love to his entire family. May God grant you His peace and wrap you in His love in this time of mourning.
God bless, Margaret and Bob Bartels (yes, Bob met him and it was a talking marathon when they were together.)

Memories to Share; Where to begin... Bob was such a BIG part of our lives. For over a decade he was there in a heartbeat to help however we needed help. Tim would call Bob and Bob's response was always, "Do you want me to come right now?" And there he'd be with a thermos of coffee and a box of donuts, making every dog we fostered a happy dog. At every season, he was there to drive tractor, (red or green), was there to unload silage, was there to weld whatever Tim needed welding, was there to feed livestock. Tim and I couldn't take any time away from the farm without Bob taking over chores for us. He loved doing them and we loved the time away. He would put so much thought into everything he welded for us, we knew it would last a lifetime. He was a constant help with Lyle, reminiscing, telling stories. We will miss Bob dearly. I can still hear his voice and his great laughter. I will miss seeing Bob sitting in "his" chair in the machine shop shooting the breeze with the guys. And of course, the dogs will miss the donuts. Love and Hugs sent your way. Tim and Stacy Shellabarger

Memories to Share; where to begin. Oh my gosh, Bob was such a BIG part of our lives. All's Tim had to do was call him with a question about farming and his answer within about 2 seconds was, "Do you want me to come down right now?". And there he'd be with a thermos of coffee and a box of donuts! He was there at every season of farming, driving every load of silage, feeding our livestock every time we asked. His love of farming, his knowledge of welding helped us for over a decade. His stories about the books he read, history, was incredible. Loved having conversations with him. He was such a help with Lyle, and gave Lyle such a purpose, there's no amount of thanks that would cover that. WE will surely miss him, his voice, his laughter, and of course the foster pups we take in will miss his donuts!! Love and Hugs from Tim & Stacy Shellabarger
