Robert "Bob" Thomas Jr., 71, of Davenport, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis, Davenport.
Cremation has been accorded, and a celebration of his life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Military honors will commence at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the QC Veterans Outreach Center, Davenport.
Robert Eugene Thomas Jr. was born September 15, 1954, in Iowa City, to Robert and Edna Arlene (Graap) Thomas Sr.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Bob served his country with honor before returning home to live life entirely on his own terms. Independent, ornery in the best way, and known for doing what he wanted when he wanted, he lived every day exactly how he pleased.
Prior to his retirement he had worked as a truck driver for RILCO.
Bob loved the simple joys, traveling in his RV, camping under the stars, and especially spending time with his beloved dog, Ida, who was his constant companion. Whether it was a walk around the block or a cross-country trip, she was always by his side, and the two were rarely seen apart.
He will be remembered for his stubborn streak, his sense of humor, and his unapologetic way of being himself.
Bob is survived by his children, Brenda (Jamie) Milam, Derek (Bethany Gullion) Thomas; grandchildren, Savannah (Layman) Miller and Isaiah Taets; great-grandchildren, Kyler and Jaylen; longtime companion, Tammy Klauer and her children Mitchell, April, and Tandem Klauer, all of Davenport; and his beloved dogs, Ida and Franky.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Sr.; mother, Edna Schnoor; brother, Gregory Sr.; and sister, Lynn Thomas.
