Roberta Taylor Obituary

Roberta Lee Taylor

September 21, 1937 - March 21, 2025

Roberta Lee Taylor went home to our Heavenly Father on Friday March 21 at IU Bloomington Hospital following a bout of pneumonia. She was born in Burnt Prairie IL on September 21, 1937 to Lloyd E Taylor and Edith Lyndal Taylor.

Roberta was an exemplary mother who raised her three children largely on her own following divorce, who instilled in them an appreciation of literature, art, and music, a lifelong passion for learning, and love for the Lord.

Roberta graduated in 1955 from Carmi Township High School in Carmi, Illinois. She then attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale from 1957-60 on full scholarship to study Elementary Education.

Roberta moved to Bloomington in 2000 from Bettendorf IA after she retired from John Deere & Company corporate headquarters in Moline IL, where she served as Transportation Services Coordinator. She joined the First Presbyterian Church where she made several friends and enjoyed Bible study fellowship. She was also a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood, enjoyed playing in the bridge group at her Meadowood retirement community, and liked attending concerts and lectures sponsored by Indiana University.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, her niece Carol (Bill) Mazilly, and her sister Erma Jean (Bob) Hogg. She is survived by her brothers Byron (Harvalee) Taylor of Indianapolis IN and Ft Myers FL, and Burl (Linda) Taylor of St Francisville IL.

Her legacy of faith and love lives on in her children: Sherri (Gabriel) Puerto of Coral Gables FL, Brent (Gretchen) Abbott of Valmeyer IL, and Nicole (Jesse) Crum of Newton IA.

Roberta was blessed with nine grandchildren of whom she was very proud: Alexandra (Mike) Johnson of Oxford England, Gabriel (Wendy) Puerto of Cleveland OH, Kirstie (Jason) Corder of Goldvein VA, Nicolas Puerto of Coral Gables FL, Alexander and Madison Meehan of Newton IA, Zachary Crum of West Des Moines IA, Olivia Crum of Newton, IA and Kortney Doran of Des Moines IA.

Her great grandchildren were her heart's delight: Eirinn and Thorsteinn Corder, Ryden and Sienna Johnson, and Harper and Olivia Puerto, who will soon be joined by their new baby brother due in May.

A memorial service honoring her life is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday March 28 at the First Presbyterian Church, 221 E Sixth St in Bloomington. Condolences may be given at The Funeral Chapel's website https://thefuneralchapel.net.

Bobbie was such a nice person to know. So sorry for her loss to Nicole and Brent. She was a devoted Mom and grandmother. In later years we kept in touch through Facebook sharing thoughts and pictures. My condolences.
