Ronald J. Neessen
January 16, 1939 - January 30, 2024
Ronald J. Neessen, 85, died on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at his home.
He was born on January 16, 1939, in Iowa, the son of Thomas and Wilma (Henning) Neessen. He graduated from DeWitt Community Schools in 1957, Wartburg College in 1961, and the Madison School of Banking in 1963. He married Sheran Matson in June 1964, later divorcing. On July 20, 1974, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Miriam Platz, in Waterloo.
He was employed as a National Bank Examiner with the US Comptroller of the Currency from 1963 to 1982. He then became the Vice President of Commercial Lending for First National Bank of Moline in 1982 until his retirement in 1996.
When he was younger, Ron loved playing high school and college sports - football, baseball, and track. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and participate in show choir. He was their biggest fan and encourager.
He was most known for his piano playing and ability to play along with anything by ear. He shared his talent with a variety of community groups over the years. He also volunteered as a mentor for the Waterloo Schools.
He grew up knowing Jesus as his Savior and raised his children to follow his example. Family was his first priority. He loved with everything he had, and he was loved back the same. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Ron is survived by wife, Miriam; daughter, Jennifer (Jeff), of Dubuque, IA, and their children: Cody, Racheal, Alexis, and Aaron; son, Eric (Kim) of Westminster, CO, and their children: Jonathon, Mitchell, and Ben; son, Michael (Jeff) of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Krista (Josh), of College Station, TX, and their children: Brandon, Nathan (Sydney) and Lauren; great-grandchildren: Emmett, Jonah, and Winona; and sister, Carol Goodwin of Omaha, NE.
