Ronnie Hogard
March 13, 1961 - February 7, 2025
Ronnie Wayne Hogard (Ron) was born in 1961 in St. Louis, MO to Rufus Wayne and Barbara Jean Hogard. He grew up in Topeka, Kan., Beloit, Wis., and in Iowa where he spent the bulk of his childhood in Davenport. He graduated from Central High School in 1979. Ron held employment positions at Barton Solvents, Inc. in Bettendorf, Iowa and then at Carthage Marble in Kansas City, Mo. where he lived for many years in adulthood before returning to the Quad-Cities. He loved everything sports and played with multiple leagues throughout his younger years and in his 20's. He enjoyed time at Royals and Chiefs games in Kansas City and remained a loyal Chiefs season ticket holder and avid Cardinals fan all of his life.
Ron died at home on February 7, 2025 from cardiovascular complications after a 35 year battle with Type I diabetes. Ron was preceded in death by his mother, father, grandparents, uncles and his beloved golden lab 'Hogie'. Ron is survived by his sister, Laurie Mueller along with her husband, Henry; and niece, Alexa whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by three aunts, Donna Staats, Ruth Gordon, Elene Craven; multiple cousins and their families. Ron could be an ornery cantankerous character and instigate a lot of mischief, but he had a knack of somehow endearing those he encountered with his antics. He always maintained a zest for living throughout his multiple health challenges. We will remember him for his fearlessness in his approach to life (cliff jumping), for his perseverance and humor as he faced the hardships of his condition (talking like a pirate after getting his first leg prosthetic), for his quiet kindness (secretly mowing the lawn or shoveling the drive of his elderly neighbors in KC), and of course for his love of cold beers (plural). The red cardinal is a symbol that will continue to remind us all of him.
Services in celebration of his life will be at Weerts Funeral Home on Monday, February 17 with a visitation at 10 a.m. and funeral services at 11 a.m. in the Weerts Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider a donation in his honor to the non-profit VFW Post 9128 in Bettendorf, Iowa which served as a great support and 'home away from home' for him for many years during his journey.
