Sandra "Sandy" June (Baker) Sommers, 81, of Eldridge, IA, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at WestWing Place in DeWitt, IA. Per her wishes, Sandy donated her body to Palmer Chiropractic College. Cremation will eventually take place with inurnment at the Rock Island Arsenal at a later date. Sandy was born August 26, 1940, to Charles and Elizabeth (Hunter) Baker in Rock Island, IL. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1959. Sandy worked as an optometrist technician for Dr. Mervin Hasebrook in DeWitt, IA, and for Dr. Sam Davis in Miami, FL. On October 18, 1986, she was united in marriage to Richard "Rich" Sommers in Galena, IL. Together, they enjoyed making memories traveling places as far as Paris. Her favorite place to be while traveling was always a beach. In her free time, Sandy enjoyed reading, adopting and having pets, and spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren.
Sandy will be missed by her husband, Rich, of Eldridge, IA; children: Randy (Lori) Steward of Calhoun, GA, Tami (Jim) Jaeger of DeWitt, and Anthony "Tony" (Donna) Steward of Sioux City, IA; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Gary (Ann) Baker of DeWitt; and a sister, Pam Wise, also of DeWitt. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and a son, Marty Jo Steward.
