Thomas Evans

1950 - 2025

Thomas Lee (TL) Evans, MD, of Edina, Minn., age 75, passed away in his home on November 23, 2025.

Tom was the eldest of five children born to Robert L. and Mary Ellen (Murphy) Evans. He was born in Emerson, Iowa and moved to the Quad Cities where he graduated from Assumption High School in 1968 as Senior Class President. Tom went on to study political science at Yale before attending medical school at the University of South Dakota, University of North Dakota and the University of Minnesota. Dr. Evans began his career in emergency medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center and continued to serve in a variety of medical disciplines over the course of his profession, including playing a key role in the establishment of Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minn. and serving there as Director of Emergency Medicine.

TL had a passion for music and, among other instruments, played the bass guitar in a band during his high school and college years. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid gun collector. He cherished the summers he had in Okoboji, Iowa, developed a love for the wind, the waters, and the freedom of sailing. He met life the same way he met the waves – with daring cleverness and a mischievousness that hinted that he was already plotting his next adventure.

Tom is survived by his mother, Mary Ellen Evans; siblings, Sally (Tom) Schulz, Mary Beth (David) Hughes, James (Marie) Evans, Patricia (Craig) Rees; three children, Mackenzie (Michael) Reynolds, Allison (Andrew) McKay, Robert Evans; and six grandchildren, Katherine, Molly and Brady Reynolds and Leo, Cal and Wyatt McKay.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 29 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport, Iowa with a visitation at 9 a.m. and a luncheon to follow at The Outing Club. Burial will take place at Emerson Cemetery in Emerson, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Doctors Without Borders.
