Toni Latrice Harrington, 62, of Davenport, passed away on September 21, 2025.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025 at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport, Iowa. Services will be at 4 p.m., following visitation. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.weertsfh.com.
Toni Latrice Shedd was born on January 22, 1962, in Biloxi, Mississippi, to William T. and Etta V. Shedd. As the firstborn child of a young couple working hard to build a life in central and southern Mississippi, Toni quickly embraced her role as big sister to her younger siblings-Keith, Sherry, and new baby brother Kenny-by the age of nine.
Growing up in Mississippi allowed Toni to form strong bonds with her extended family, instilling in her a lifelong commitment to keeping family first. In pursuit of better opportunities, her parents moved the family north in the summer of 1972, settling in Rock Island, Illinois, in the Quad Cities.
Life on 18th Avenue and 14th Street was a lively change from rural Mississippi. Toni, always adventurous, quickly made friends with neighbors and kids throughout the block. She continued to embrace her role as big sister, helping around the house and caring for her siblings. She attended Hawthorne Irving Elementary, Franklin Junior High, and began high school at Rock Island High School. During her school years, she played the clarinet, participated in junior high basketball, and was a flag girl in the marching band.
In 1978, the family moved to northwest Davenport, Iowa, when her father joined the police force. Toni adapted quickly to her new surroundings, once again making new friends while maintaining close ties with old ones. She graduated from West High School in 1980 and went on to earn her associate's degree from Scott Community College.
Toni married Michael Harrington in a close-knit ceremony at her parents' home around 1987, after giving birth to her son, Michael Harrington Jr., in November 1986. After her brief marriage, Toni devoted herself to raising "Little Mike" as a single mother, always striving to help him become his best self. They were inseparable-whether shopping, attending sports events, or enjoying weekend bingo outings together.
Toni was resourceful and worked in various roles throughout the community, but she found her true calling as a home health aide. Her compassion and dedication deeply impacted the lives of the elderly clients she cared for, a reflection of her nurturing spirit and lifelong role as a caregiver.
Her love for family and friends was evident in the countless photos that adorned her home. Whether playing games, traveling to watch football, socializing, or simply sharing a meal and conversation, Toni cherished every moment spent together. Her boundless energy and joy for life touched everyone around her.
Toni's unexpected passing has left a profound void in our hearts. She leaves behind many who loved her deeply and were loved by her in return.
She is survived by her son, Michael Harrington Jr.; her parents, William Thomas and Etta Virginia Shedd; her siblings, William Keith (Sue), Sherry Lacquetta (Darren Tatum), and Kendrick Dwayne (Nesha); her nieces, Danielle, Mikali, Nicole, Aleya, Raven, Mersayis, Kamryn, and London; and her nephew, Dillon. She also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and coworkers.
Toni, you will be deeply missed by all whose lives you touched.
