CHARLES CITY-Wayne I. Newsom, age 78 of Charles City, Iowa, formerly of Goose Lake, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 in Charles City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 29th at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Wayne was born in Clinton on October 31, 1943, the son of Milton and Anna Mae (Gammon) Newsom. He graduated from Camanche High School. He served 2 ½ tours of duty with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Wayne married Connie Schultz on January 13, 1973 in Clinton. Connie passed away on February 9, 2013. While farming his whole life south of Goose Lake, Wayne also worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 20 years, and later with the I and M Railroad, and as truck driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time at his cabin. He had a love of dogs, especially beagles, which he raised for many years.

Wayne is survived by 3 children; Renee (James) Gregorich of Sioux City, IA, Robert Newsom of Goose Lake, and William (Cheri) Newsom of Greene, IA; 3 grandchildren, Alena, Kane, and Tobias and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Connie; 2 brothers, John and David, and a nephew, John Newsom. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
