Mark Randall Call
July 20, 2025
We are sad to announce the passing of Mark Randall Call on July 20, 2025. He was our brother, uncle and dear friend. Mark was born on February 23, 1950 in Pasco, Washington to Mark and Lucille Call. In 1952, the family moved to Quincy, where Mark lived most of his life.
After graduating from Quincy High School in 1968, Mark attended Washington State University. In 1972, he received his Bachelor degree in General Studies with an emphasis in Archaeology. This inspired him to work on two archaeological digs, one near La Conner and one near Fort Flagler on Puget Sound. He also attended a semester at the Universidad de Cultural in Guadalajara, Mexico, which started a lifelong love of travel in Mexico. While visiting La Push shortly after receiving his degree, he worked as a puller on a commercial fishing vessel. This led him to Clatsop Community College in Astoria, where he continued his education in the fisheries program. His love of history, fishing, and being near the ocean remained throughout his life.
Mark later returned to Quincy and started working in the family orchard. He was later offered a job at Morgan's Double Diamond Orchard and this is where he completed his orchard career. While running his own crew, Mark was the mechanic, equipment and spray manager. Several in his crew stayed on with him for many years due to his outstanding work ethic, fairness and generosity.
Mark was always the life of the party! He loved having fun with family and friends, attending concerts, fishing in Alaska, Mexico and Washington's many lakes, rivers and streams, and exploring backroads wherever he went. He was also an avid reader and a lifelong learner. He loved maps, both of land and sea. Mark was kind and generous and willingly offered his guidance and knowledge. He was everyone's favorite uncle and fondly known as Tio Marko.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Lucille Call, and his sister, Karen Metzger. He is survived by his sister Sonja Akerman (Phil) and niece Miranda; his sister Gretchen Fitzgerald (Greg), nephew Jacob Steele (Melinda) and children Harlen, Aspen and Farrah; niece Megan Trautman (Ryan) and step-children MacKenzie and Peyton; step-niece Jennifer Fitzgerald and son Byron; step-nephew Timothy Fitzgerald (Julie) and sons Shaemus and Declan; step-nephew Jeremy Fitzgerald and children Sam, Danika and Kendall; nephew Courtney Conklin and his daughters Chelsea Miller (Chris) and children Blake and Ellie; Liz Hughes (Zach) and children Summer, Hudson and Nolan; and Tish Conklin and her son Beckham. In later years, Randall Jobs came into Mark's life, whom he considered his son. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by all who knew him.
On Saturday, August 16th, a celebration of Mark's life will be held at the Faith Community Church, located at 1005 10th Avenue S.W. in Quincy, Washington at 2:00 p.m.
