Peter Buys Obituary

Peter "Jim" Buys
May 28, 1933 - March 29, 2025
Peter James "Jim" Buys passed March 29, 2025. Born on May 28, 1933, to Hendrik and Wilhelmina Buys in Edgerton, MN.
The family moved to Lynden, WA in the early 1940s.
Jim attended school through the eighth grade, then worked on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Army in April of 1954. After serving for two years, he returned to Lynden.
He married Minnie Pilon on May 2, 1956, and worked as a mechanic. Two years later they moved to Sunnyside, bought a dairy farm and built a family. They eventually were drawn to Quincy and the lure of row-crop farming.
Dad always liked the mechanical aspect of the farming operation. He was a hard worker and shared his strong work ethic with all his children. His motto was "Make do or do without", we rarely did without. He possessed a great sense of humor and didn't mind sharing a joke with anyone. He enjoyed morning coffee with the group until his health would no longer allow. He also had a deep faith in God and was intentional about sharing it with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie and children, Cindy Sole (Rob), Dennis Buys (Jane), Brenda Poldervart (Kirk), Arlene Ren (Brad) and son-in-law Don Hodges. The family expanded to include nine grandchildren, Brent and Ryan Sole, Ashleigh Langshaw, Brad and Kyle Poldervart, Courtney Hodges Purvis and Alie Murray, Micheal and Derek Ren and nine great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his younger brother, Don Buys. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine Hodges and twelve of his siblings.
Jim was a founding member of the Columbia Basin Antique Tractor Club, he enjoyed restoring tractors, mostly John Deere. He also served on the Farmer Consumer Awareness Day board and was an active member of the Quincy Christian Reformed Church.
We are so grateful to those who helped our family during the last year, allowing dad and mom to stay in their home. We saw God's grace in the 24-hour caregivers, church, family, friends and neighbors – Thank you!
A service will be held at the Quincy Christian Reformed Church on Saturday April 12 at 11 am. Memorials can be made to the Quincy Christian Reformed Church.
