Shirley Zimbelman Obituary

Shirley Zimbelman
August 25, 1938 - August 1, 2025
Shirley Zimbelman, 86, of Quincy, WA, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, with family by her side.
She was born on August 25, 1938, in Gering, NE, to Ward and Helen (Knight) Quinn. Her family moved often during her early years but eventually settled in Quincy, where she graduated from high school in 1956.
It was during her first week in Quincy that she met Richard "Dick" Zimbelman. Shirley was staying after school for a study session when Dick, who didn't usually go out of his way for academics, showed up just to meet "the new girl in town." That bold move paid off, and they quickly fell in love and were married on November 21, 1956.
For the next 67 years, they built a life centered around family, generosity, and hard work. They did nearly everything side by side. They raised five children, worked the family farm, and generously gave their time to the community they loved. In doing so, they passed on a lasting work ethic, strong values, and a sense of responsibility that lives on in their children and grandchildren.
Shirley found her greatest joy in being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was endlessly patient and always giving. Whether she was baking cookies, cooking meals from scratch, or chauffeuring grandkids around town, she did it all with love. Nothing brought Shirley more happiness than a house full of children filling her home with energy, love, and laughter.
She is survived by her children, Peter Zimbelman (Kristi), Janet Sundberg, Joan Zimbelman-Ralph (Alex), Jill Zimbelman, and Judi Rang (David); brother, Martin Quinn (Suzy); seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; parents, Ward and Helen; siblings, Dale Quinn and Laura Abel; sons-in-law, Greg Sundberg and Al Lane; and granddaughter, Jill Sundberg.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Heritage Barn, located next to the Reiman-Simmons House, 415 F St. SW, Quincy, WA, on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Shirley's memory to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care of Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel of Quincy, WA.
