CHARLOTTE LOUISE ROBERTSON ANDERSON
Charlotte Louise Robertson Anderson, 99 years old, passed away on November 25, 2025, at the Littlefork Care Center. She died 4 months shy of her 100th birthday which may have been a good thing since her sister, Agnes, (who really wanted to live to be 100) didn't! Heaven is probably grateful to have avoided this potential situation.
Charlotte was born on April 7, 1926, at the family homestead on the banks of the Rainy River in Indus township. Her parents were father, Stuart Mackenzie Robertson and mother, Veta Christina Peggar. She was the 5th of 6 children and lived in Indus until the death of her mother when she was 10 years old and moved to Littlefork with her dad, Stuart, and younger brother, Donald.
Per Charlotte's wishes, she wanted some history included in her obituary. She and her siblings lived in a tin house in Indus built by her grandfather, John Durand. John was originally born in Quebec, Canada. He immigrated to the United States as a young man by canoeing through the Great Lakes to Duluth, MN. He then walked to Tower, MN where he worked for Minnesota Iron Company for 15 years. He moved to the Rainy River area in 1896 and was the 1st to file a homestead claim in the Indus area. Her grandmother, Isabella Dryden Robertson, came from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. John had written to a company requesting a "mail order" bride & Isabella learned of his request. Isabella's 12 y.o. son, Stuart, came as well. They married and settled in Indus. When Charlotte's mother died at a young age, John & Isabella provided essential assistance & caring presence to Charlotte & her siblings.
She graduated from Littlefork High School in 1944. She moved to Bemidji, MN and graduated from secretarial school in 1945. After graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for the Navy for 8 years. The office she worked in was on Constitutional Avenue. She was proud that she saw, in person, Winston Churchill, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Princess Elizabeth (before she became Queen Elizabeth), and shook hands with Harry S. Truman. Following Washington D.C., she moved to Denver, CO and continued to work for the Navy.
After 4 years in Denver, she moved to Minneapolis, MN and started a career working for the U.S. Postal Service. During this time, she met and married Clifford Anderson in 1962. In 1998, after Clifford died, she moved to
International Falls, MN to be closer to family.
Charlotte's interests & talents were truly diverse. She was a published poet. She travelled to Africa, Europe, Scandinavian countries, Egypt, & throughout the U.S. (We may have missed a few!) Her numerous dogs over the years were her "fur babies" and they were very spoiled! She loved going to restaurants and made sure to get a "doggie bag" to take home. Reading, especially history, and embroidery were hobbies she enjoyed until her eyesight failed. You may have seen her "tooling" around in her beloved red Ford Ranger. She was passionate about God & politics. She and her brother, Donald, had many heated discussions about both subjects. God may have to be the referee this time around.
Preceded in death by husband, Clifford; parents Stuart & Veta Robertson; step mother, Annie Robertson; siblings: Douglas Robertson, Isabel (Gerald) Erickson, Agnes (Elmer) Henrickson, Phyllis (Albert) Henrickson, and Donald (Audrey) Robertson.
Survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Thank you to Northwinds Assisted Living & Littlefork Care Center for all you do. Many staff members cared for Charlotte and commented on her wit and dry humor. Special thanks to Kori for caring so much for our aunt.
In summary, Charlotte was short in height but tall in character.
Burial will be in the Robertson plot at Indus Cemetery on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 1 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the spring.
