Danny Mahle Obituary

DANNY B. MAHLE Danny B. Mahle, a proud Norwegian by heritage passed from this world on Dec. 17, 2025 in Solvay House at the age of 78 with the dignity and strength that defined his life. Born and raised in International Falls, MN, his love of hockey and his athletic ability made him a member of the Bronco hockey team as an eighth grader. He played in 4 consecutive Minnesota State High School championships, winning 3 from 1964-66. After graduating he suited up as a defenseman for the UMD Bulldogs. He worked in sales with S&H Green Stamps, Procter and Gamble, and retired from Hershey Chocolate Company in 2002. This earned him his nickname Sig Dan, the Candy Man. In addition to enjoying time with his family, he loved to be outdoors. His passion was hunting: moose, caribou, elk, bear, deer, grouse, and pheasant. He made lasting and treasured friendships during those outings up North, southern Iowa, Colorado, Alaska, and Canada. People will probably remember the story of his encounter with a grizzly bear on an Alaskan river. Yikes! Danny was a strong man with strong determination. He was always willing to help friends, neighbors, and even strangers. He shoveled sidewalks and cleared snow for half the block on West 8th Street. He was a "people person" who enjoyed the human connection. Being a generous friend was his strength; he commanded attention in a powerful, but gentle way. Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Selmer and Evelyn Mahle; his brothers Oscar and John; his sister Marilyn Keys; brother-in-law James Podlak; his beloved daughter-in-law Angela Findley Mahle. He is survived by his spouse Maureen of 56 years; his daughter Erica Sipsas (John) of Vicenza, Italy; his son Jason of Duluth; his five grandchildren: Kyle Sipsas, Emily Mahle, Brendan Mahle, Zoie Sipsas and Evan Sipsas; his sisters Janice Podlak and Judy Boomgaarden (Oliver); sister-in-law Joan Mahle; and brother-in-law Robert Keys and many nieces and nephews. As he wished, his passing will be marked quietly without formal services. Friends are invited to remember him in their own way. May the Northern Lights shine brightly to guide him home. Until we meet again, takk for alt...Skal.
