LLOYD CHEZICK Obituary
LLOYD EDWARD CHEZICK Lloyd Edward Chezick of Lamar, Texas died on January 29, 2023, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Lloyd was born on January 5, 1938, in International Falls, MN. His parents were Lloyd and Olive "Skip" (Kerr) Chezick. An adventurous spirit, he lived a full and varied life. As a young boy his first love was fishing Rainy Lake, where as young as twelve years old, he and his friends made unchaperoned excursions deep into Rainy Lake and Canada. At the age of seventeen he joined the U.S. Navy and two years later married Bernice, the love of his life in a beautiful and enviable union that spanned sixty five years. His Navy career would carry them to many places including Hawaii, Florida and Kansas often making lifelong friends in their travels. As a Crew-chief aboard the Navy's P-2V Neptune he flew to numerous countries including Libya and Midway Island, but the flying memory he shared most often was landing the Navy P-2V in International Falls with the mission of hosting a crew fishing trip. Following two tours in the Navy as an aircraft electrician,he joined the Air Force, working as an avionics technician. During his time in the Air Force he and his family were stationed in England, South Carolina, Las Vegas, and Idaho again making lifelong friends along the way and finding fishing and hunting opportunities at each stop. It was during his first of two Vietnam Era deployments to Thailand that he would spend countless hours fighting through bureaucracy to adopt their youngest child Teresa, saving her from orphanage life and completing the family. After twenty years of military service, "The Falls" and the love of family called him back home where he served as the head of maintenance at Falls Memorial Hospital. In time a lake cabin was built on Lynx Island which would provide the family with many happy and indelible memories. An avid hunter, it was rare that he wasn't the first one at the shack to fill his tag. He was a member of numerous fraternal organizations, and was especially proud to be a charter member of The Rainy Lake Sport-fishing club which gave him the opportunity to give back to the land and sport he so enjoyed. Upon his retirement in 1994, and seeking milder weather, Bernice and he would ultimately settle in the small coastal town of Lamar Texas where he would continue to enjoy his Minnesota pastimes, making many new friends and becoming an active part of the community. With Minnesota and family never far from his heart, they would continue to spend several months "up North" each summer. While he enjoyed his hobbies, his greatest joy came when surrounded by family and friends often over a cold beer where the laughter always flowed. Grandchildren often found themselves hoisted into his embrace, with Grandpa's lap being the favorite seat in the house. His devotion to his wife, son, daughters, grandchildren great grandchildren, siblings, parents, and friends was absolute. A kind, humble, friendly, loving soul, he was deeply cherished. His passing leaves a hole that is eclipsed only by the mountain of love felt for him. Preceded in death by his parents and daughters Catherine and Ann Marie, his brother Wayne Chezick and his sister Lois Brekke. He is survived by his wife Bernice Chezick (Gross), son Scott Chezick, daughters Lorelei Saliani (Chezick) and Teresa Spies (Chezick), four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, his brother Larry Chezick and sisters Judy Gilette (Chezick) and Joanne Amerud (Chezick).A memorial service will be held this summer in International Falls at a date and time to be announced. Interment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
