With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dennis Riggs, a dedicated educator, avid outdoorsman, and a loving father and friend. Dennis peacefully departed this world on August 17th at the age of 76.

For four decades, Dennis devoted his life to nurturing young minds as an elementary school teacher. His last years teaching were spent imparting knowledge, love, and laughter to generations of kindergarteners, where he was known for his fun and inventive teaching methods. He had a lasting impact on the children he taught, and many remembered him fondly for his warm-hearted spirit and cowboy hat.

Beyond the classroom, Dennis was a passionate outdoorsman, finding adventure and camaraderie through backpacking, kayaking, biking, and fishing. One of his favorite places to be was among friends, enjoying the breathtaking beauty of the Eastern Sierras. He continued to explore its wonders well into his retirement.

Dennis was not only a teacher but also a great friend and father to his two children, Kisha and Joshua, and a grandfather to Otis and Delia. He was always there for his family, sharing his wisdom, humor, and love with them unconditionally.

After retirement, he found love and companionship with Linda Phillips-Dodson and her four children, Jessica, Kristin, Kevin and Ryan. They created treasured memories spending time at his home in Aspendell and traveling all over; some of his favorite spots being Alaska, Costa Rica, and Baja.

Dennis's caring nature extended far beyond his family, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends in need. His generosity and unwavering support were testaments to the cherished friend he was to many.

Dennis Riggs will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, creativity, and unwavering friendship will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.

A celebration of Dennis's life will be held on October 14th at Linda's home at 17775 Rancho De La Angel, Ramona, California. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station or Pacific Crest Trail Association in Dennis's memory.

May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory forever be a source of inspiration and comfort to us all.

Dennis Riggs, he was my daughter´s favorite teacher. In fact he´s the reason she decided to become a teacher herself. He made learning interesting and fun! I used to see him at the crack of dawn most mornings hiking Mt. Woodson. In the past several years, I would run into him hiking in the grasslands preserve. Such a kind wonderful man. I knew he was ill, but just found out today that he had passed. My heart breaks for his family and friends, what a huge loss.

Mr. Riggs was my kindergarten teacher and he was the most kind person and always had that cowboy hat. His class was where I met my best friend, whom we have been inseparable since for over 26 years. His class was also where I started my polished rock obsession throughout elementary school, to which I still have the majority of to this day. I am so very sad to hear of his passing. Condolences to all the family members. May you Rest in Peace, Mr. Riggs.

Dennis was my younger daughter's kindergarten teacher many years back and she loved him. I sure was surprised to see a tall, cowboy hat wearing man in the kindergarten classroom when we went to "meet the teacher," but he was so kind, caring and so easy going, he made his classroom a safe and loving space for his student; my surprise just melted away and I ended up volunteering to help in the classroom! My family always had fond memories of him. Condolences to you, Linda, and your family. Peace and LIght to all and especially to Dennis!
