I am a student at Shanley High School in Fargo North Dakota. I researched Donna for an assignment on 9/11 and wanted to leave a message. She seemed to be such an amazing person, inside and out. Helping out in her community, with her family, in her work, and in everything else that she did. I am honored to have been able to learn about her and now use her as a role model for how a human being should act. Her loss was truly a tradgedy, but she is not forgotten.

To the Bowen Family,
I did not know Donna or your family, but I found her picture on the 9/11 legacy page and read about her. It's so sad that a family would lose someone like that. How thankful we can be to have the hope of seeing them again. John 5:28,28

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

I worked at the Pentagon too - and was there that day. I taught computer classes and had a devil of a time with my voice mail. Donna was the voice on the end of the phone that always helped me. We found out we both lived in Waldorf and kept saying we needed to get together for lunch. I've been doing fund-raisers in support of 9/11 since then - literally just came from my first benefit here in South Carolina, raising funds for the Army Fisher House. This is how I remember everyone...by still doing fund-raisers, to make sure no one ever forgets.

Donna I Miss You still every day! Donna was my neighbor in waldorf. We were pregnant with two of our kids at the same time and delivered them just weeks apart. We kept in touch, even on the morning of 9/11. I still struggle with the loss of such a good friend but also for the loss of Alexander, Gene, and Anastsia's mother. I know your mom loved you very much, you were her world. Mary, Donna & Ken are with you too every day with thier hands on your shoulder. Donna I know you are in a better place . What wonderful memories I have been afforded by reading these email tributes. I was lucky to have Donna as a friend for 25 years of my life, she was my maid of honor at my first wedding and we emailed each other daily in the last couple years, including the last day of her life. She was the first person after my mother, that I called when I found out I was pregnant and she shared my sorrow when I miscarried. Her family meant everything to her. One of our local radio stations honored the victims of 9/11 by purchasing a 500lb bell to be rung once for each person lost. Over 3000 people showed up at our stadium on 9/11/02 to each ring the bell and recite the name, age and location of a victim. It was my honor to read Donna's name that day, and I gave that bell a good double ring. I miss you girlfriend and I continue to pray for your family. Love, Judy Murphy Brown

It seems like only yesterday that this disaster happened to our country. My heart and prayers go out to her parents Mary and Ken and her three children. Donna was my neighbor in Shrewsbury, MA up until her teenage years when her family moved to Maryland. What a great person and friend she was. We would play Barbies together for hours, with me trying to convince her to give me some of her Barbie clothes. Other days she would drive me around in her yellow VW bug. She also had the cutest dog Benjamin, who she loved. She also babysat for my brother and I, because she was a few years older than us. She was truly a wonderful friend. As the years have gone by, we had still remained in touch with calls and daily emails. How I miss those emails!!! I feel that I have lost one of my closest childhood friends. Those kinds of friends can never be replaced. Even as adults, we chatted about kids and our lives, how much they have changed since our childhood. She was one of the first people that I had called when I became pregnant with my last child. She gave me the encouragement that I would survive with one more baby in the house. I feel lost without hearing from her. My heart goes out to her three children. How she loved her kids. She was a wonderful mother. May God watch over them and guide them through their lives without their mother. Her husband Gene will have a big job ahead of him, and as they grow hopefully he will remind them of what a wonderful loving person she was. I wish all of you the strength that you need to get through each day. I think of you daily and wish you all peace.
We miss you Donna,

When you hear people say, "it's a small world," I learned what that meant on September 11, 2001. Donna Bowen and I lived in the same housing development, just a few streets apart. I will never forget how September 11th changed my life forever.

I do not know Donna, but I do feel a particular closeness to her and I pray for her and her family often. Ironically, I have a cousin with her name who lives in Falls Church, VA. Also, I am originally from the D.C. area, so I received many calls, some from people who I hadn't heard from in ages - all asking if Donna Bowen who tragically died in the Pentagon attack was my cousin. No, I answered them all - but I would tell them to please prayer for her regardless. In reading the other tributes here, her 'New England accent' is mentioned, so she is not from the Mid-Atlantic area and Bowen is probably her married name (her husband may relate to one of the lines that converge in the DC area...) and really, aren't we all related in the end?

I worked with Donna in the Verizon DC office before she moved to the Pentagon office. We shared stories about being stepmothers and how to handle difficult situations. America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

I hope this encourages the family of Donna that we are praying for them in their time of grief.
We Remember You

We remember you in your anguish and pain,
knowing that in this life you'll never see your friends or loved ones again.
You'll never see their precious smile or feel the warmth of their embrace,
or hear the laughter in their voice or wipe a tear from their face.
We remember you in the days to come when reality sets in,
that there'll be an empty place in your home and heart where your loved ones should have been.
Yes they should have been there in your life,
to share your joy to share your strife;
To share your laughter to share your tears,
to share your dreams through the years.
We remember you in our thoughts and prayers
And to let you know that somebody cares.
Yes we care that you are lonely and blue,
So we are sending this hug especially for you.
We pray you find peace from the Lord above,
And that He will surround you in His love.
We pray you'll have the strength needed to go on,
To prove to the enemy that they have not won.
And when the hurting comes anew,
Please know in your heart that we remember you.
