Carl Roe Obituary

Carl Earl Roe, age 89 of Glendive, Montana passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Private Rite of Committal will be held in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. A memorial celebration will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Beer Jug in Glendive. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Carl was born on December 5, 1935 in Forest River, North Dakota to his parents, Sig and Loretta (Meade) Roe. He was raised and educated in Forest River, graduating from Forest River High School with the class of 1953. Following graduation, Carl attended Barber College in Fargo, North Dakota and moved to Glendive shortly after he graduated. He started his twenty-year career as a barber in the basement of the Jordan Hotel at Nielsen's Barbershop then he moved to Pete Lamen's Barbershop and upon Pete's retirement he worked with Al Matheson at Al's Barbershop until 1971. After his barber career, he started managing Cross Petroleum, which he continued to do until 1999. Carl's final job was working as a funeral assistant for Silvernale-Silha Mortuary which he continued to do until 2015. This was a job he thoroughly enjoyed and was famous for saying "let me buy you lunch" once the funeral was over.

Carl was united in marriage to JoAnn Kalberg on July 23, 1956 in Miles City, Montana and to this union four children were born.

Carl was a proud Irish and Norwegian who loved to hit up all of the Lutheran Churches when they served Lutefisk. He enjoyed all sorts of sports and cheered for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, Indianapolis Colts, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NDSU Bison and the MSU Bobcats and of course the Dawson County Red Devils. Carl was a devout Catholic, the honorary Mayor of Stipek and one of the nicest and friendliest people you can meet. Carl never met a stranger; he always had a hand shake and a conversation ready.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Nash Roe; three sisters, Ona Vee Sage, Margaret Woods and Joann Hop; three brothers, Russ, John and Robert Roe; and brother-in-law, Sheldon Kalberg.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, JoAnn Roe of Glendive; one daughter, Peggy Maez of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sons, Mike Roe of Glendive, Tom (Susan) Roe of Lolo, Montana and Tim (Heidi) Roe of Portland, Michigan; ten grandchildren, Mathew Maez, Erik (Danielle) Maez, Garth and Patrick Roe, Elling and Izzi Roe, Connor (Chelsea) Roe, Andrew, Olivia and Jack Roe; four great grandchildren, Lucy Maez, Breslynn, Jayden and Mason Roe; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Roe and Jeanette Roe and numerous nieces and nephews.
