Carroll Havener Obituary
Carroll Patrick Havener
April 9, 1952 - October 11, 2025
RAPID CITY - Carroll Patrick Havener, 73, of Rapid City, S.D., passed away unexpectedly on October 11, 2025.
Patrick was born on April 9, 1952 in Artesia, N.M., to John and LoCretta Havener. He loved growing up in Lake Arthur, playing high school basketball under the guidance of his father, who was his coach. He later graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was always a proud NMSU Aggie!
After a few years at Navajo Refining in Artesia, N.M., he moved to Newcastle, Wyo. in 1980, where he spent the rest of his professional career at Wyoming Refining Company. He was a fantastic manager and President of the refinery, overseeing the daily operations, envisioning and facilitating major projects to improve and sustain its operation. His dedication and commitment to his work and his employees were unparalleled. He loved raising his children in Newcastle and always spoke of what a blessing it was. He retired in 2011 after 31 years there.
Pat spent his retirement years in Rapid City, S.D., where he met and married Jamie Lowry. They were each other's great loves and gifts from the Lord. Together, they spent the remainder of Pat's years cherishing each other and enjoying life to the fullest. They loved exploring the Black Hills, cheering on the Rapid City Rush, enjoying neighborhood get-togethers with good friends, parenting their dog, Baxter, taking the family on incredible vacations, rooting for the Denver Broncos, and enjoying the tradition of "Football, Pizza, and Dice" with their children and grandchildren.
Pat was purposeful in making memories with his family. He made it his goal to provide so many opportunities for his children and grandchildren. He had just met his first great-grandchild born two weeks before he passed, and his smile and joy while holding him spoke volumes of his love and priority for family. He was so excited to meet his second great-grandson due in November, and by God's kindness we believe he met him in heaven first, while we wait to welcome him here.
The most generous person, Pat was intentional and caring in his giving for the well-being of others. He was always a strength and a blessing. He spoke truth from his soul, brought order when needed, and ensured there was always fun to look forward to at the same time.
He is survived by his wife, Jamie Lowry; his children: Kristy (Brett) Oleson and Travis (Theresa) Havener; his stepsons: Zachary and Noah Hollander, Michael (Jana) Hannah; stepdaughter: Jennifer Ailesbury; grandchildren: Jordan (Victoria) Oleson, Joshua (Aaliyah) Oleson, Kaleb, Megan and Katelyn Oleson, Mark, Avi, and Ben Hollander; great-grandsons: Vincent and soon-to-arrive Malik Oleson; and sister: Jeanette Henry. He was preceded in death and met in heaven by his parents and brother. Though his passing was unexpected to his loved ones, it was not a surprise to God, and Pat always said he was ready "when the Good Lord wants me". His family and friends will forever miss him and purpose to carry on his legacy of generosity and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
