Clifford Johnson Obituary
WHITEWOOD | Clifford Johnson, 96, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Fort Meade.
Cliff was born March 1, 1916, in Colfax, WI, to Alfred and Ruby (Hilson) Johnson. He served in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific for 3-½ years during WWII, and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
Cliff married Jacqueline Mallory in Sturgis in 1949. He worked underground at the Homestake mine for 32 years.
Cliff was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Whitewood, the V.F.W., Masonic Lodge, Naja Shrine Temple, and the Whitewood Senior Center.
In addition to his wife, Jackie, he is survived by a daughter, Claire (Danny) O'Neill, Spearfish; son, Scott (Sharon) Johnson, Whitewood; three grandchildren, Jordan (Calie) LeDuc, Story, WY, Stacey (Steven) Lust, Aberdeen, SD, Collin (Amber) Johnson, North Pole, AK, where he is serving in the Army; twin great-grandchildren, Carter and Regan Lust; and his sister-in-law, Jerry Hardy, Whitewood.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the First Presbyterian Church in Whitewood with Pastors Steve Agan and Skip Smith officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to the Whitewood Presbyterian Church and Hospice of the Northern Hills.
