Clinton Eggleston Obituary

RAPID CITY - Clinton Eggleston, 82, Rapid City, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Rapid City Regional Auxiliary Hospice House.

He was born May 2, 1928, in Alpena to Cecil and Pearl (Luckey) Eggleston.

Clinton was raised on a farm west of Virgil, graduating from Virgil High School in 1946. He continued working on the farm until enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1950. He served during the Korean Conflict and was Honorably Discharged in 1954.

Clinton married Joyce VanDeWalle, April 24, 1952, in Alpena.

He returned to farming, became an automotive machinist and moved to Huron and then was an asphalt operator.

He and Joyce moved to Rapid City in 1982 and retired in 1989. Clinton and Joyce enjoyed wintering in Arizona.

He was an avid fisherman, loved hunting and enjoyed travelling.

Clinton was an honorary lifetime member of the American Legion Post 268 in Virgil.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce, Rapid City; three sons, Stanley Eggleston, and his wife, Tammy, Missoula, Mont., Randy Eggleston and Danny Eggleston, both of Huron; a daughter, Cindy Maier, and her husband, Michael, Rapid City; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Myrna Vanuk, and her husband, Daniel, San Antonio, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Janice Eggleston, South Lyon, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lorraine Denison; and two brothers, Glenn and Darrell.

Visitation will be offered from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Edstrom & Rooks Funeral Service at Serenity Springs.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 10 at Edstrom & Rooks Funeral Service at Serenity Springs Chapel of Tranquility with the Rev. Bruce Herrboldt officiating. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors provided by Rushmore Post 1273 and the South Dakota Army National Guard.

A memorial has been established by the family.

Dear Joyce and family,
Larry and I just got back from three weeks down south with our son and Grandchildren and we were very saddened to see the post in today's Sunday paper (March 27, 2011)of the loss of Clinton. Our prayers go out to you and your family. May God bless and keep you safe.
