Daniel Gregory Rederth, Sr.
SHERIDAN, WY - On December 20, 2023, Daniel Gregory Rederth, Sr., age 73, passed away after a short but courageous battle with aggressive cancer. His life partner, Nancy Reinke, his son, Dan, and his daughter, Amy, were by his side, holding his hand to ease the transition.
Dan was born July 17, 1950, to Allwin and Shirley Rederth in Sioux Falls, SD, the first born in a family of ten children. He graduated from Washington High School in 1968, and attended Lake Area Technical School in Watertown, earning a degree in Drafting and Surveying.
Dan obtained employment with the City of Sioux Falls in the Civil Engineering Department and was later employed by TSP as a Surveyor. In 1978, the company transferred him to Sheridan, WY, and he settled into the easygoing town that became his beloved home.
Not one to be cooped up behind a desk, his career choice enabled him to work outside, which was the ideal job for him. As a respected Survey Crew Chief, he contributed to the success of many Sheridan County and Powder River Basin construction projects.
In the early 1990s, he met Nancy, and their blended family was together until his passing. Dan loved to spend his summers camping, backpacking, and hiking, but winter weekends were not wasted and usually included downhill or cross-country skiing. At night, a backgammon or cribbage board would be on the dining table, and he always had a pool table in his house ready to rack them up.
As much as he loved the outdoors, he loved music, good old rock and roll playing in the background. He shared his love of outdoor sports and music with his close friends: Jim Willey, Jan Allen, Jim Shassetz, and Ken Belmont.
Dan was a simple man, not interested in accumulating earthly possessions or unnecessary baubles. His greatest joy was one he could enjoy daily from the comfort of his house - a view of the Big Horn Mountains.
He will be remembered fondly for his magnificent Sam Elliott mustache, and one-of-a-kind heartfelt chuckle that crinkled his kind, brown eyes.
Dan is survived by his life partner, Nancy; and his two children: Dr. Daniel Rederth, Jr. (Heather), and Amy Rederth and her sons: Nick and Davis Green. Nancy's two children - Jay (Michelle) Reinke and children: Ashton and Hailey, and Nikki (Jake) Kendrick and children: Mason and Timber. Additional family members sharing the profound loss of Dan include four brothers: Harley (Kim), Jimmy, Jay, and Art; and five sisters: Linda, Vicki, Connie, Kimber, and Shirla; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Allwin and Shirley Rederth.
A Celebration of Life will be held in 2024.
