Douglas Temple Obituary

PORCUPINE - Douglas Lee Temple, 66, of Porcupine died Saturday, May2, 2009. He was born June 18, 1942 in Rapid City. Douglas was raised and resided in the Rockyford area his whole life. He attended grade schools at several area rural schools. While attending high school in Gordon, NE. Douglas was president and Star Farmer of the Future Farmers of America chapter. This involvement in FFA led to an extensive trip through Europe that left a big impression upon him. Doug was a longtime member and Director of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association. He married Judy Hanneman in 1959 and raised a family of six children on the family ranch at Rockyford. His last seven years were spent with his compassionate and caring friend, Madonna Adams with whom he found great peace and love. But, of course, Doug didn't like things too quiet - he loved riling Madonna up. Doug was first and foremost a rancher and cattleman. He raised top notch commercial horned Hereford cattle. He operated his ranch through the years with the assistance of valued hired men, many of whom helped him for over 20 years. He valued his good neighbors and the help they traded at branding and shipping time as one of his greatest assets. Doug's greatest love was working his cattle with his family, all mounted on horses that were raised and broke on the Pitchfork Ranch. These horses all descended from two mares given to him by his uncle, Willard Lange, that were descended from his Grandfather Lange's horses from before 1900. Doug's idea of a vacation was trucking cattle for the neighbors or hauling his equipment somewhere to be worked on. He treasured his relationship with people that he did business with. Doug had a unique perspective of the world that definitely wasn't mainstream or politically correct, and he wasn't afraid to share it with people. Everyone that knew Doug, knew that if he teased you in his offbeat manner, that he liked you. His larger than life presence will be truly missed. Survivors include two sons, Curtis Temple and Merle Temple, both of Porcupine, two daughters, Kim Lensegrav, and her husband, Ken, Kyle, and Jennifer Temple, Chadron, NE, his special companion, Madonna Adams, and her family, Rapid City; 7 grandchildren; Rosanne Ross, Janelle Wilson, Bunny Temple, Tarah Temple, Trey Temple, Katie and Kelsey Lensegrav and 2 great-grandchildren. Also his trusted and faithful sidekick, LeRoy Pourier and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons; A.D. and Jeff and his former wife, Judy. A wake will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City, with a Christian Wake Service and Rosary Recitation at 7 p.m. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at the Mother Butler Center with Rev. David Matzko, S.J., officiating (this is 12:00 Noon Doug's time.) Burial will be in Pine Lawn Memorial Park. A memorial has been established to the Sky Ranch for Boys, Sky Ranch, SD, near Camp, Crook. Friends may sign his online guest register and offer condolences at www.osheimschmidt.com.

To all of Doug's family and Madonna,
How saddened we were to hear of Doug's passing...yet how grateful we are that we got to enjoy such wonderful memories with him this past fall when we visited Lead and then made such great new ones: most especially, that day on the prairie we all (Doug, us, dad ["Uncle Hank"], Joyce, Aunt Dorothy, and Madonna) shared. And who could ever forget long ago visits to the ranch and those "gentle" horses Doug always picked out for me to ride! He will be missed by all of us.

Sincere sympathy to Jennifer, Merle, Curtis and Kim. We thought Doug was one of the best neighbors anyone ever had. He was one of those independent fellows that would do anything for anybody with a smile on his face. We had lots of good times with the Temple family and enjoyed their friendship greatly. Our love and prayers to you all. Merton & Mable Glover

To ALL of Doug's family, friends and neighbors I wish to extend heartfelt
sympathy on behalf of myself & my 3 sons,
Brandy, Scott & Kelly & their families.
So many memories of Special, Unique Doug.
He is my cousin-but- he is my brother in
every sense of the word with his support, love, laughter & teasing. Doug was
a strong dependable man. My parents Reta
& Merle Temple loved Doug like the son they never had. Doug was ring bearer at
my wedding to the late Rug Grabow. So cute with his cousin Jennifer as flower
girl. A special memory is of Doug and his
6 little guys in their Black Hats, neat
as pins and perfectly behaved, he was proud dad. In my eyes Doug's greatest
desire was to be like his dad (Allen)
who called his little guy "Manny" or
Little Man-which he was as a little boy!
He will be greatly missed-may you find
strength through the difficult days with
Special Memories.

Doug worked hard and played even harder. He was a good neighbor. When my family lived on the reservation we shared a lot of good times with he and his family. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Sincere condonlences to Doug's children and special friends. I knew Doug when we were both children, attending large family gatherings(our grandparents, Allen and Elizabeth Temple had 13 living/adult children. There were always lots of cousins around. Doug's Father and mine (Glen) were brothers. Doug and I are cousins. I was the flowergirl and Doug was the ring bearer at cousin Bobbie Temple's formal wedding in 1949 in Rapid City. Doug had an easy grin along with an already well developed "cowboy" strut at age 6!
