Lois Kluthe Obituary

RAPID CITY - Lois Ann Stanton Kluthe, 90, Rapid City, passed away quietly Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Westhills Healthcare Facility surrounded by her family; some with their presence and others in their thoughts and prayers.

Lois was born in a small, humble home in Buckhorn, Wyo., on Sept. 3, 1920, to Glenn and Annie (Quick) Stanton. When she was nine, the family moved to Rapid City where she attended Wilson Grade School and graduated from Rapid City High School. She attended National Business College and worked as a secretary for several years. On Oct. 24, 1942, she married Howard Kluthe in Seattle. In 1944, they moved back home to Rapid City.

Lois' family was everything to her. Her eyes would light up when she saw family coming to visit or to take her on outings. She was a wonderful cook, she golfed, loved travel, sewing and family gatherings. Her wonderful smile, her sense of humor and her very quick wit will be remembered.

Lois was involved with numerous organizations, was an honored Red Cross volunteer at Rapid City Regional Hospital for many years, played in the bell choir and volunteered with the Senior High Fellowship at First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Richard) Lewis, Winner, and son, Gary (Donna) Kluthe and daughter, Kathy (Doug) Lundeen, both of Rapid City; grandchildren, Sean (Tina) Espe, Rapid City, Krsiti Hossle, Winner, Renae (Chris) Matkins, Fort Collins, Colo., Tracy (Steven) Scholar, Aurora, Colo., and Gretchen (Brian) Errea and Paul Alley, both of Rapid City; great-grandchildren, Alycia Espe, Sidney, Landon, and Sam Hossle, Alex and Henry Matkins, Sam and Tristan Scholar, and Jack and Eric Errea; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Robert Stanton, Floyd Stanton and an infant brother.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bob Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.

A memorial has been established to benefit the Window Fund at First Presbyterian Church.

Condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.behrenswilson.com.

Gary, Sandy & Kathy this is truely a sad time and our thoughts are with you all. Although I new your mother for some 60+ years, my favorite thoughts of Lois were at West Hills when I visited her and freinds there. For I felt that she was revisiting her youth by riding down the hallways on her scooter. She had a twinkle in her eye, warm smile, and the metal to the peddle. Doug Koppmann
