Dear Dorothy and family,
Please accept my condolences. Not mentioned in the obit was his remarkable design, construction and monitoring the performance of one of the first earth sheltered homes here in SW Rapid City. His leadership at SDSMT was great!
Sincerely, Mark

It is remarkably difficult to come to terms with the passing of a person who you believe will always be there if you just reach out. I will be eternally grateful to the engineers and computer scientists (and those who taught them!) who made laptop computing and Zoom ubiquitous so that a small group of us who were part of the Watson School (now Watson College) at Binghamton University - the "Watson OGs" - could get together once a month during the Covid pandemic lockdown, and every month since, to stay connected. We remained a family.
Lyle Feisel has been a giant in my life since I came to work for him as he wrapped up his legacy as Watson's Founding Dean. Our visits were not frequent enough, but those engineers and computer scientists saved the day.
Since I am at a loss for words, I will point to the Oliver Wendell Holmes quote that we printed on the program for his retirement dinner (it remains pinned above my desk):
"...the great thing in this world
is not so much where we stand,
as in what direction we are moving:
To reach the port of heaven,
we must sail,
sometimes with the wind
and sometimes against it -
but we must sail
and not drift, or lie at anchor."
If I tell you that when we showed him the program, he pulled a slip of paper from his wallet bearing the same quote, will you understand?
Captain my captain, at least for today I am adrift.
Sending the pieces of my heart to Dorothy and the family <3
