Manley H. Hart

PIEDMONT -- Manley Hamilton Hart of Piedmont, SD passed away on April 3, 2007 at the Clarkson Mountain View Health Care Center at the age of 81. Thanks to the staff and nurses for their loving care. Manley was born on July 29, 1925 to Plin and Ruby Hart at Spencer, SD and he attended school there. On December 27, 1955 he married Marlene Taplin. They moved to Riverside, CA where he managed a thoroughbred horse ranch. In 1957 he moved back to Mitchell, SD and later to Sioux Falls. In 1988 they moved to Piedmont where he spent his retiring years. Manley was a lover of horses and bought and trained them all his life. His knowledge of horses was sought after by many who knew him. In the early 1940's Manley and his father, Plin, would hook up a team of horses and wagon from Spencer, SD and head northwest to Timberlake to buy, train, and sell along the way. They would spend a few days there at Lee Robleys, an uncle, then start the journey back, buying, training, and selling horses. He attended the Fountain Springs Community Church whenever he was able. He dearly loved his two precious granddaughters Chanel Read, and Jean Hart, but was partial to his only grandson, Jordan Hart, who would carry his namesake and his love for horses down through the generations. He is survived by his wife, Marlene of Piedmont, one son, Darcy and his wife Kathy of Piedmont, one daughter Candee Read and husband Kelvin of Buffalo, WY. Those three wonderful grandchildren, Chanel Read, Jordan and Jean Hart. Two sisters, Gwen Taylor of Bakersville, CA and Marci Sanner of Riverside, CA and one brother McLoy of Corona, CA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Mickey Meyers and Sunnie Cook and two brothers, Jack and Dixon. Black Hills Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Sturgis is in charge of arrangements. At his request the body will be cremated and laid to rest with only immediate family present.
