Dora Glenn Obituary

GLENN, Dora Jean

Candler

Jean, a lifelong resident of Atlanta, Georgia, died peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025. She was born in Atlanta on April 25, 1937, to Lucy Poe Candler and Ezekiel Samuel Candler.

She attended R.L. Hope Grammar School, Washington Seminary and graduated from Westminster Schools. She later attended Hollins College and graduated from the University of Georgia, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Jean was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church. She served on many committees, was past chairman of the Altar Guild and volunteered weekly in the church office. Jean was active in civic and social organizations, including the Junior League of Atlanta and Mimosa Garden Club, where she served as past president.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Jean Candler Glenn II; and her grandchildren, John "Jack" Glenn Starke (Caroline) and Candler Arlin Starke. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Fitten Glenn, Jr.; her son, John Fitten Glenn III; and her brother, Ezekiel Samuel Candler, Jr.

Jean will be remembered for her fondness of animals and nature and the love she shared with her family and church community.

A private graveside service will be held for the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Anne's Episcopal Church Missions Program or the Atlanta Humane Society.

September 25, 2025

We have such fond memories of Jean. We have been neighbors for many, many years. We walked our streets with Jean and Jack. Had conversations with Jack about his cars and Jean's flowers that she loved. We are going to miss them. We will keep them in our hearts always. Carol & Paul Muldawer
