Colleen M. Casey Bacon
Colleen M. Casey Bacon passed away Tuesday June 21st with her family by her side. She was born June 15, 1938, in Anaconda, Montana, the oldest daughter of John and Catherine Casey. (Connors)
Colleen was raised in Anaconda, graduating from Anaconda Central High School in 1956. She attended Saint Patrick's School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1959.
While working as a nurse at Warm Springs, she met Ernest Bacon, a rancher from the Big Hole Valley. They married on June 11, 1960. Ernie and Colleen ranched in Dillon. Colleen worked as the Director of Nursing at a local nursing home. After moving back to the Big Hole to the Fishtrap Ranch, she became the unofficial county nurse providing health related support to many area residents.
She and Ernie balanced the many long hours of ranch life at the Elks Club, Colleen enjoyed hosting many Lady Elks functions and they enjoyed going out dancing with friends. She never missed a re-union and her broad smile made her much loved.
Most of all she loved being, "Grammy" to her four grandsons. She always had time to play games, do puzzles and read a book to them. Dodging the four peddle trackers buzzing around her house became an art! She was never alone when it came time to ride the four wheelers. Everyone wanted to ride with Grammy! She kept her freezer stocked with treats for her boys, and had to be the Schwans man's best customer.
As her boys grew, Papa and Grammy traveled the state to endless baseball, basketball, and soccer games.
Colleen loved her large extended Anaconda family, the Callans, Connors and Caseys and kept up with all of them over the years.
Colleen is survived by her sister Margaret Hamel, (Gary), son Shaun Bacon (Cyndi), daughter Jamie Crossman (Bob) and grandsons, Clint, Tannar, Kyle and Randy Crossman, and granddaughter to be Josie VanDenburg. (July 16th)
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on July 9th at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Hamilton at 11:00 with interment at the Wisdom Cemetery, a reception will follow at the Wisdom Community Building.
Pallbearers are Clint, Tannar, Kyle and Randy Crossman, and Jim and Bart Bacon. Honorary Pallbearers are John Reinhardt, John Driggers, Kim Bacon and Lee Kirkpatrick.
The family suggests memorials be made in her name to the Dillon Elks Club. Condolences may be left for the family at www.dalyleachchapel.com.
