Constance "Lela" Shook Schaffer
CORVALLIS – Constance "Lela" Shook Schaffer, 83, of Corvallis passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. She was born August 18, 1937 in the old Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton to Harvey Lysle Shook and Dorothy Lela Gaffney Shook (deceased 12 Nov 2005 in Hamilton). Lela was raised in the Bitterroot Valley attending schools in Hamilton, at Baker Creek, Victor and Darby. In July of 1957 she married Gerald Thomas Grewell of Pasco, WA in Ellensburg, WA and together they had Zella Lee Grewell on October 20, 1961. They were divorced in January of 1964. Lela married Lyle Charles Johnston of Poplar, MT in July of 1964 in Salmon, ID and together they had Lyle Charles Johnston, JR on February 4, 1967. They later divorced and she married George Henry Schaffer on January 7, 1977 in Deer Lodge, MT. Lela loved the out of doors. She spent many happy hours with George moving cattle or just riding horses. They also liked to camp. Lela liked to read, sew and do fancy needlework but her main love was genealogy. She was a member of the Bitterroot Valley Historical Society and the Bitterroot Genealogy Society. Services will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Corvallis with Bishop Adam Sangster presiding.
