Carrie Thayer
1928 - 2021
Carrie Thayer 1928- 2020 Carrie Grace Thayer passed peacefully October 16, 2020 at Ava, Illinois. Carrie was born December 15, 1928 in Greybull, WY to Eunice Jewel Barber-Reed and Robert R. Reed.

Carrie married Carl O. Thayer on August 30, 1945 in Billings, Montana. After the war Carrie and Carl settled in Cody.

In the 1964, Carl and Carrie moved to Rawlins. Carrie managed the Sears catalog store for nearly 20 years before retiring in 1987. In 1992, Carrie and Carl moved back to Cody to be closer to family.

After Carl's death in 2006, Carrie began to have lunch and play pinochle every Friday at the Cody Senior Center. She cultivated even more friends through introductions made by her niece and continued to enjoy spending time and cooking meals with family in the Cody area. Carrie was a wonderful cook and lovely host. Her joy in preparing food for family was passed on to her daughters. Whenever mother and daughters were gathered together, whether all four or maybe just three of them at one time, there was much laughter and lots of cooking and eating. Along with cooking she enjoyed sewing making everything from doll dresses to clothing for her family. Carrie was also a gifted artist and craft person.

Carrie often expressed how much she loved each of her daughters. The daughters in turn loved their mother immensely, looked up to her, and respected her for the strong and wonderful woman she was.

Due to health concerns in 2011, Carrie moved in with her daughter in Illinois. Carrie enjoyed life in Illinois, but frequently commented on how she missed Wyoming.

Carrie is survived by her daughters, Arlene Crawford of Wright, Wyoming, Connie Buker (John) of Ava, Illinois and Kelly Wells of Austin, Texas; grandsons Casey Crawford, Ryan, Eric and Adam Buker, and Carl Wells; eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews all of whom she was fond of. Carrie was preceded in death by a much loved twin brother, Thomas, and siblings Lorraine, George, and Kenneth.

The daughters will hold a graveside gathering at 2:00 the afternoon of May 15 at the Cody Riverside Cemetery and hope that all family and friends can be there as Carrie's ashes are laid to rest with Carl's.
