Arlene Lenhart Obituary
She was the wife of Larry A. Lenhart.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Violet Winifred (Sweeney) Chambers.
Mrs. Lenhart was employed as a special education teacher's aide for Daniel Boone School District at Amity Primary Center from September 1999 until February 2006. Previously, she was a teacher's aide at Jacksonwald Elementary Center in the Exeter School District.
She was a member of Community United Church of Christ, St. Lawrence.
Mrs. Lenhart, known to her friends as “Arnie,” was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School in 1968. She received an associate degree in special education from RACC in 2002. Mrs. Lenhart was a regular participant in the APT Scholarship Shows for Exeter Township School District, which provided a scholarship to Exeter students for their education. Most recently, she was active with the American Cancer Society through advocacy and also as a motivational speaker and humorist.
Mrs. Lenhart enjoyed sewing, gardening and watching the birds and nature in her backyard, especially the hummingbirds. She liked to write stories for children and was also working on a book for fellow cancer survivors, which will be completed by her family.
She loved all children, so it was only natural that she answered the call to work as a teacher's aide in special education. However, her favorite job was being a loving wife and mother.
She is also survived by a son, Michael A., and wife, Barbara Lenhart, Exeter Township; and a daughter, Wendy J. Lenhart, Philadelphia.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Community United Church of Christ, 3330 St. Lawrence Ave., Reading, PA 19606. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

I only met Arnie briefly at a relay meeting, and was in her company a few times after. I knew instantly she was a wonderful person. She had an aura of kindness and compassion. She will be greatly missed.

Our hearts were saddened to learn of Arnie's passing - more so that she had been ill and in much pain! Although I had not seen her in a long while, I thought of her at times with fondness. I loved her sense of humor and beautiful, beautiful smile! Being with her always lifted my spirits. What a great loss our community has suffered!

Dear Larry & Family, I was quite shocked to here of Arnie's passing. Even though I did not know her well I will never forget the time you and she invited Bing & I in for tea in your rec room. Your children were still young at the time. It was then I realize what a wonderful wife and mother she was. Her face beamed when speaking of you and your children. It was an enjoyable time chatting. Though she and my husband are in a better place now, hold on to those loving memories. It is hard to ease the pain you and your family feel. We have so many precious memories of time spent with Arnie during our younger years. We first met when we all worked at Met-Ed and shared a lot of wonderful times together. We shared in the joy of the birth of each other's children and delighted in watching them play. She was so proud of all of you. We feel very blessed to have known her. Arnie was truly a special person. She fought the hard fight so many of us have had to fight. Anyone who knew Arnie was blessed, anyone who did not know her missed out on a beautiful person.

Oh, how my heart is breaking at the loss of my best friend, my soul-sister, my Arnie. But my spirit soars when I think of her free from the miseries of the disease that took her away from us. We can't be selfish and wish her back, but we can look for her in all the beautiful things she cherished most: the flowers, birds, trees, stars, the tranquil places where her spirit nestles and waits.

Arnie had such a bright positive light that surrounded her. The world has lost a truly unique and wonderful person this week.

Arnie has been like a second mom to me, and I can't even begin to describe how much I'll miss her. My thoughts are with you all, Lenharts! I love you all and I'm here if you need me.

Larry,
