In following David's wishes, there will be no viewing or service.
David was born on December 11th, 1939 in Reading, PA to Arthur and Alberta Hartenstine.
A retired Captain in the United States Air Force and veteran, David served 20 years in the Armed Forces, including several years as an enlisted Marine and Airman before he was selected for an officer commissioning program for the Air Force.
During his career, he served in multiple positions and commands, most notably as the Commandant of Cadets for the Memphis State University AFROTC battalion, and was the recipient of numerous awards and decorations.
Following his military service, he spent over 20 years working as a Program Manager for several defense contractors across the United States, and moved to Lincoln Park for his retirement.
In retirement, he enjoyed reading historical fiction novels, vigorously debating politics, seeing Broadway and off-Broadway plays, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; his brother, Donald Hartenstine; daughter, Donna and husband, Garrett Deacon; daughter, Joan and husband, Jeff Lemon; son, David Hartenstine; daughter, Jennifer and husband, Joel Knippel; his grandson, Adam Spears, and his great-granddaughters, Emma and Charlotte.
